A new classification to be published Thursday says counties will only have control over 129,456 kilometres of roads in classes D, E and lower. Most of these are “village” roads connecting shopping centres to sub-county headquarters. Classes A, B and C that make up 39,995 kilometres are under the national government. Governors will also no longer enter agreements with the national government to fix roads. Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary James Macharia told MPs at a Tuesday meeting that some roads that were formerly in Class D were upgraded to C based on the volume of traffic.
