management would be wise to let the strike proceed and use it to offload the weakest links.. a good number of the staff at KQ need to be taught a tough lesson on collective responsibility of the airlines performance/existence

KALPA is a dark force, a rebel without cause.. Jitters of the seabury, mckinsey changes are the cause of the sudden panic.. Lets see what happens on 29.01.16.. I repeat, this is not the perfect time to buy.. I await 02.04.16

I beg to disagree with the opinions herein, typical case of us ignoring the root-cause and concentrating on the symptoms; In today's BDaily, Kabaara has summarized the KQ malaise as
Quote:
a “negative balanced scorecard” – customer apathy, process failure and HR management malfunction, balanced by management hubris and negative financials.

Customer apathy leads to all the other factors. And consistently disgruntled clients are never caused outright by management, but by front line staff.. You may have a point, but I dont see it yet

Two Unions, same employer, different positions

The Kenya Aviation Workers Union (Kawu) mONday came out in support of KQ’s management, claiming the pilots lacked the mandate to force a regime change.

The Kawu, a union of about 10,000 -- a quarter of whom are KQ employees excluding pilots, on Monday came out in support of the ongoing restructuring at the airline.
Moss Ndiema, the union’s secretary- general, said the airline’s pilots should bear part of the burden of KQ’s declining profitability due to their “high pay despite poor productivity.”
“Kalpa and their members cannot escape blame for grossly unattainable collective bargaining agreement demands that have skewed the wage bill in their favour despite low productivity,” Mr Ndiema said in a press conference.

That is 10 pilots per plane to use up 460 pilots and leave another 40 to take leave at any given point in time.

Assuming the number is inclusive of co-pilots, 92 pilots will be fully engaged at any point in time (46X2). Assuming again that 24 planes are for long haul and therefore needs two shift, we shall engage another 24X2=48.

So the total staff utilization comes to 92 + 48 = 140. Even if we add an extra 50% to account for leaves read: maternity, perternity, annual leave, bereavement, sickness etc maximum number should be around 210.

This leaves a whopping 290 pilots to wander around and push union agendas.

Wow 500 hundred pilots, that's like employing 10 drivers for a truck, and why is jambojet recruiting more pilots saw an advert, they share pilots with KQ, unnecessary employees should be reduced and optimize the current, we understand that maybe reserve pilots are important but not that many.
