let's make a distinction between Graffiti and rowdiness.

Graffiti isn't really a bother, the rowdiness, their uncouth nature and recklessness is really what NTSA should be concerned about.

At one point the music seemed to be a 'cool' thing as well, but lately, it just isn't enjoyable to listen to anymore. It's just noisy. or maybe i've become too old.

It is a known fact that Graffiti gives a matatu an identity. The matatus live by this identity. When you have graffiti of thug life then the matatu must behave like a thug. The more a matatu is pimped and has loud music the more careless the matatu is driven. They also have a number of makangas hanging on and are very rude.I deliberately avoid the nganyas maybe juu ya uzee and i like my peace. The younger generation like the more loud carelessly driven matatus for the adrenaline rush. The matatus put on the loud music deliberately so that you don't notice it is carelessly driven. The nganyas are also likely not to reach your destination.
I am with the NTSA on this one.We need to address the thug culture in the matatu industry.

NTSA have not banned graffiti. What they have 'requested' matatus to do is ensure the name of the sacco is clearly visible on both sides and not obscured by graffiti.

There was a very popular mathree called Makaveli that KU students used to line up and wait for. There is segregation of the market based on whether you want nganya or not.For route 44,the nganya matatus are at Tuskys BebaBeba. For the non Nganya ones they are at Odion next to shell. For the nganya ones they have specific clientele.

Pro grafitti
1. Provides employment for quite a number of artist
2. like any other business, matatus need branding to attract their customers
if NTSA have an issue with the colours, then the same should apply to branded EABL vehicles and others

What NTSA should focus on is those flouting existing laws, loud exhaust, loud horns, reckless driving etc that affects other road user

The title of the thread probably should read 'Matatus! Should they go?'
