Why is everyone getting so demoralised and emotional. That our gallant boys should give up and come back home. A soldiers's office is the battle field. That is what they are trained to do. That is their career - they are fighting machines. What happened is just another day in "their office". They should dust themselves and continue with the job.

As someone said, if your watchman is attacked, you do not withdraw him, and leave yourself exposed, and give the criminals a free reign, rather you equip/support him to ensure he neutralises any future attacks. Same with our boys. They need our support.

It appears that KDF were warned about the impending attack hours before it happened, at least according to this article. So why didn't they call for aerial reinforcements?

And how was Al Shaitan able to move past two checkpoints?

It is inevitable that a KDF base in Somalia will be attacked by Al Shaitan at some point. So they must have had contingency plans in place.

Are KDF being let down by poor leadership and zero accountability again ama vipi?

He doesnt have to be in nairobi to handle the issue. He can do it from statehouse mombasa, malindi or kisumu. Also Omamo and Mwathathe are doing a good job.

The article says they were warned of a "possible attack", not an "impending attack" as you have put it. Those are two different things.

So you are saying that because it was possible and not impending, they should not have called in re-reinforcements ?

In any case after re-reading the article, I found that Al Shabaab had been massing in the area for days.

This if from the article:

A Somali official says initial warning came from civilians who saw al-Shabab massing men in the area for days.

That also seems like an intelligence failure. How is it that locals saw this coming and KDF did not? Apparently most of the locals fled out of town before the attack.

Also Al Shaitan has attacked two other AMISOM bases within the last 6 months. The method of attack has been the same i.e. using a vehicle laden with explosives. What was learned from the previous attacks and which lessons were applied?

To me it seems like these are some questions that Gen Mwathethe should answer.

@Alba, I'm with you on this one. Someone let the young boys down. They had only been there for a week. There are questions that need to be answered.
