The contractor will drill a 5Km tunnel on the Nairobi-Naivasha section. Surely this deserves a docu even for archives sake.

Which section exactly is the tunnel gonna be?
Descending the kikuyu escarpment gave the colonialist a hard time as the lunatic line had to meander on so much from uplands through kijabe mpaka huko munyu karibu na Mai mahiu.

Okay. You younsters have not been on a Kenyan passenger train then. There exists a tunnel on the current line somewhere near Matasia. Could be the same spot.
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

I think you are mixed up or out rightly lying to us.
For starters, I was literally born on the railway trucks in a town called Menengai (between Rongai and Nakuru, na sio Ongata Rongai).

I have used the Kenyan trains for 1001x1001 times...what I know is the tunnel between Muguga and Limuru railway station and the one between Lumbwa and Fatana stations (i.e Kipkelion and Fort Ternan)

Unlike google, i have to remember since it's close to 35 years since i used the line last. At least the tunnel is a station away and you didn't seem to know until now.smile

Once the "knowledge transfer" has occurred I hope there will be an additional line to Nanyuki or Nyahururu

why not to Eldoret - Malaba or Nakuru - Kisumu.
I think Eldoret - Malaba or Nakuru - Kisumu has more potential returns compared to Nanyuki or Nyahururu

Stoni Athi, where they get their kokoto. Turn-off @Daystar. Take your car to Rob's Magic first. Drive to Gen. Mulinge's (RIP) former shooting range, a km or so after that is the Stoni Athi station. Then a relatively nyweee drive using the 'road', the trucks use, all the way to near Athi River. ImpressiveApplause

It will extend to Kisumu and Malaba as it heads to UG. By moving to Nyahururu and Nanyuki, it will meet the lapsset SGR. All the warus flowers minchi and etc from the farms can use the rail.

In other news:

Passengers arriving from Mombasa on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train will alight at Syokimau and board the existing commuter train to central Nairobi, authorities said, setting travellers up for a last mile transfer that will complete the 500km journey.

Unlike the current railway line, which runs right into Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), the SGR passenger train will terminate at Syokimau in Machakos County where the contractor is building the main station.
