@sparkly - I have not have officially heard/read that Centum is out of RVR.
All we have is a story that says that Citadel will have 51% of RVR & Ugandans 15% (sheltam has 35% so where does the 17% come from?)... and the 15%?

Centum may have impaired RVR investment but that does not mean they have sold it. If there is value, they can write it back...

Huh? Real estate in Sudan? I lost you there

Centum has offered its stake for USD 4.5 million which translates to Ksh 347.85 million as at todays exchange rates. Considering the fact that they marked down the investment by 84% which was equivalent to Ksh 295million in april 2009 its a plus for them.

NAIROBI, March 29 (Reuters) - Kenyan investment company Centum (ICDC.NR: Quote, Profile, Research) has offered its 10 percent stake in a concession running the Kenya-Uganda railway for $4.5 million to other shareholders, the company said on Monday.

The 25-year concession started in 2006 but failed to take off due to a dispute between shareholders of Rift Valley Railways (RVR). Reviving the rail network between Kenya and Uganda is seen as critical to boosting intra-regional trade.

"Centum Investment Company, in line with its new investment strategy, has offered its entire 10 percent equity stake in the Rift Valley Railways Investment (RVRI) to the rest of the shareholders through a pre-emptive offer process as outlined in the RVRI shareholders agreement," it said in a statement.

Other partners in the consortium are Mirambo Holdings and Primefuels Ltd, Trans-Century, Babcock & Brown of Australia and Egypt's Citadel Capital CICA.CA, through its subsidiary Ambience Ventures.

Under a deal that was announced after arbitration in London, and which is expected to be finalised by mid-April, Ambience Ventures will take a 51 percent shareholding in RVR, while Trans-Century will own 34 percent. In short Centum is being forced out by Transcentury and Citadel. Not a bad thing as this railway thing is a very longterm, risky and unpredictable venture. They'll have money to invest in more stabler areas. This is the time to buy!

BBI will solve it

Having already written off its loss on RVR, the sale means that any upside will go into the P&L for 2009/10. which closes tomorrow.

@Guru

Its now at 15

Note: Having spent 6 billion in RVR, writing off 2 billion and now selling its stake at RVR at 4.5 billion means Centum is going to add 2.5 billion into its books as cash realized. Expect prudent investing of the 4.5 billion this time round. Hope this former captain major general airforce jetfighter driver understands the "Idiot's guide to valuing shares/stocks"
