I have used IDEA and I have not yet encountered any data analysis challenge that it couldn't handle. The scripting feature also ensures that you only have to design your procedures once and re-use them forever.

Inbox me. I'll put you in touch with a contact who can fill you in on full features.

Correction...Its not just Auditors who use ACL/IDEA....Fraud Analysis proffessionals also use these... I personally root for ACL..purely based on experience i.e analyse 100% of data..easy to use/install etc...

Thanks Goliath. Is your recommendation based on a comparison of both tools? In other words, have you used IDEA as well?

Gathinga..Unfortunately I have not used IDEA..but all the organizations I have worked for use ACL, as well as KRA and some top Audit firms..But I think it boild down to what suits your needs. They appear identical perhaps the differentiator is cost and support locally.

Thanks Goliath. ACL support locally through Ernst & Young and in SA sucks. IDEA which is locally marketed by KPMG looks more accessible. Besides idea has a package for appx USD 5000 while ACL low end package is USD 9000

Go here to see a serious alternative to those two http://www.wizsoft.com/

I have seen WizWhy and WizRule at work and their results are superb. Problem is that it does not have a pusher in this region. In Israel it is the KING.
When I have money, I get rid of it quickly, lest it find a way into my heart.

I use ACL and find it very powerful and almost everyone uses it. However I heard IDEA has dashboard capabilities that I would be interested in checking out. Does anyone have any experience with it?

Hi,

I have a question for those who have used both ACL and IDEA... I've been using ACL for a while and now trying out IDEA as a comparison. In IDEA, is there anyway we can change the column/field heading name(display name) without changing the field name? In ACL, to do this is very simple where you can just double click on a column name and set the alternate column title. It does not change the field name, just the display. I really need this functionality especially when dealing with database tables/files where the field name only have 4-5 character length and does not reflect its purpose.

Thanks.

Hiyo ni very simple bwana... right click in the collumn - > select field manipulation -> double click on the fieldname and edit as desired..

My opinion .. been using IDEA for a long time.. just started using ACL..and man is the thing unfriendly.. totally unintuitive...

working with IDEA is like working with Excel but with all the power of ACL

I prefer diving straight into the data with SQL , has the best possible manipulation of the data

I've used ACL and they are nothing compared to having total control of data using, i found ACL to be limiting. i hear IDEA is more like ACL so i havent tried it. ACL looks to me like excel with a bit more features .

SQL is a bit(not very) techie, but once you learn, it definitely worth it
