This sibling rivalry has been simmering for some time, characterised by trading of tirades, and even some proxy wars.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Saudi Arabia announced Sunday it was severing diplomatic relations with Shiite powerhouse Iran amid escalating tensions over the Sunni kingdom's execution of a prominent Shiite cleric.

Saudi Arabia will always be the villain. An evil kingdom that has been used as a proxy by US. Their support for ISIS is an open secret.

Given Saudi and Iran who/which would you take - as it relates to their conduct in the global affairs and community of Nations responsibilities.

An overwhelming proportion of the population -- 71 percent -- lived in urban areas, and Tehran and its satellite towns are home to 12.2 million inhabitants.

The literacy rate for those aged between 10 and 49 was 93 percent.

Most of the population is young, with 55 percent aged under 30.

The proportion of young Iranians use to be even higher, but a rapidly slowing birth rate -- an average 1.29 children per couple, compared to 1.62 in the last census in 2006 -- has resulted in a decrease in recent years.
......

Even though Iran -- a Shiite theocracy -- is almost completely Muslim, other faiths are present.

There are 8,756 Jews in the country, according to the census. That was fewer than the 20,000 figure previously estimated.
.........
Education is an important value in Iran, as seen by a big jump in the number of people pursuing higher studies at university or in religious institutions (10.5 million, up from 6.9 million in 2006).

Men and women are split almost equally 50-50 in this category, underlining the growing number of educated Iranian women.

Is the question Sunni vs Shiite or Saudi vs Iran.

If one sticks to the question.. Why would anyone want to be Shiite? Sad

Its now turning to be a case of mob justice by Sunni nations against Shiite Iran. After Saudi, then followed Bahrain, Sudan and now UAE.

Bear in mind though, that Iran is in bad books with the UN, and is subject to sanctions as a result of excesses on the military front.
Again Israel feels more threatened by Iran and its proxies than the Sunni nations.

Of course Saudi's tacit support for ISIS is objectionable, but so is Iran's overt support for Hezbollah.
Remember the two Iranian terrorist arrested in Kenya not too long ago. The Govt in Tehran showed sympathy towards them.

Iran will play an increasingly larger role in that region Israel ipende isipende... Why? They managed to arm twist the US into a sane agreement on nukes.
Shida za Israel ni za Israel. Actually, Hezbollah can be considered freedom fighters if you ask me. Speaking for myself and Kenya... Sunnis have caused more problems for us. I suspect those iranians had no business with us but rather the occupants of that highly fortified place huko community. So if Iran can keep Saudi busy and engaged waachane na the nasty "Al"s - the better. Unlike Saudia - Iran seems more modern and while playing hardball is not nutty to the extent of not educating it's citizenry.

Very few have the option to choose where they belong. When one is born they are given a name, a tribe and a religion, then they are taught to hate one another.

The few who choose, do so out of the hate campaign

This comes at great risk, which renders the prospects of such initiative rather minimal - call it suppression, subjugation!

Once the oil dries up....then the Middle East will find out the true meaning of being irrelevant. It will be like Somalia, but on a larger scale -perhaps they can remind the world they exist by pestering Israel, much in the same way Somalia pesters Kenya by exporting insecurity and a million strong in refugees ....
The Middle East will have nothing to bring to the table. No oil, no industry, no agriculture, no human resource expertise. And then US, and with it Europe, will summarily stop giving a shit.
Shias, Sunnis, Shiites and the others will have the length and breadth to slaughter each other till the dust is stilled by the lakes of blood. When other people leave you to your stupidity as you annihilate each other, some people are going to see the light. They will realize those millennia old beefs are inconsequential. The bigotry and nonsense will be swept away by falling into the abyss and then crawling out.
50 years. Give or take.

Turkey calls the craddle of Islam "Powder Keg region"

Quote:
"The region is already a powder keg," Kurtulmus, who is also the government spokesman, said after a cabinet meeting, quoted by the Anatolia news agency. "Enough is enough. We need our peace in the region."

So all this Shia - Sunni BS is about inheritance.

Quote:
Shia, an abbreviation of Shīʻatu ʻAlī, (followers of Ali), is a branch of Islam which holds that the Islamic prophet Muhammad's proper successor as Caliph was his son-in-law and cousin Ali ibn Abi Talib. Shia Islam primarily contrasts with Sunni Islam, whose adherents believe that Muhammad's father-in-law Abu Bakr, not Ali ibn Abi Talib, was his proper successor.

How can one be your cousin, yet your son-in-law. Did someone marry his niece?

How can your successor be your Father-in-Law? Father-in-Law must have been way much older to lead. Or, someone was a pedophile, and the Father-in-Law was his son's age!

Never mind me, i was just passing by! Nikupitia tu!

that was the initial seed of separation but the differences have been distinguished by such things as manner of prayer. the shias put a ka-stone and while praying and you will notice a kabump or dark patch on their forehead kama hii

The Sunnis are kinda like the Evangelicals of the Christians lol.... nutty (especially the really nutty wahhabis who want to reverse the clock). They are Quran-only muslims as opposed to Shiites who are a bit wierd in the way they treat their imams... kinda like catholics and their saints...
so perhaps in my mind the parallels can be thought ...
Sunnis are evangelicals, Wahhabis are 'Savedi' evangelicals... tongues talking, fire breathing, bible believing... beleiving in creation, TBN preaching e.t.c. and Shias are like Catholics... lol
