I do not support the dissolving of parties. Rather the existing parties TNA, URP, DP, Kanu, ODM, Wiper, Narc, Ford K etc should be strengthened and these can then form coalitions as they wish.

A coalition is like one big and happy polygamous family. And you cant tell the happy wives to bomoa their huts and live in one big hut, since it will result in persistent chaos in the homestead.

We are back to where we were after Narc won and "constituent parties" were being asked to dissolve, and baba was right in opposing that decision.

Nairobi, Jan 05, 2004 (The East African Standard/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- Cabinet Minister Raila Odinga and 12 other Liberal Democratic Party MPs yesterday vowed never to dissolve their party.

They said they will instead organise a country-wide campaign to popularise and strengthen the party and get more members and ensure the new Constitution is ready before the middle of this year.

Another ruling Kenyan coalition partner defies Kibaki

Nairobi- Kenya (PANA) -- Ford Kenya, which belongs to the ruling National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) on Tuesday became the second political party to disagree with President Mwai Kibaki's order to dissolve.
NARC, composed of 15 former opposition parties jointly fought and won the 29 December 2002 at the expense of the then ruling Kenya African National Union (KANU).
Ford Kenya's Chairman Musikhari Kombo, declared that the party has no immediate plans to disband and challenged Kibaki to go ahead with his dissolution plans.
Kombo, who replaced the late former Vice President Wamalwa Kijana, categorically stated that party members would toe the footsteps of its founders, Wamalwa and the late opposition politics doyen Jaramogi Odinga.
The decision not to close the party was reached at a Parliamentary Group meeting, chaired by Kombo, where members vowed to resist calls for dissolution.
Kibaki had shocked his coalition partners when he declared that the parties ceased to exist in 2002 when they signed a pre-election memorandum of understanding and power-sharing agreement.
Early this week, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) which spent the entire last year pressing to be given the posts of executive Prime Minister, one deputy premier and senior co-ordinating minister and a second vice president as promised, became the first party to defy Kibaki's order.
"We have decided that unity is not uniformity and that any efforts to unite the parties, to form a single political entity must be decided democratically by the members in accordance with their parties' constitution," Kombo told journalists in Nairobi Tuesday.
"The diversity of the Kenyan people must be reflected in their political orientation, and I believe the President, being the democrat he understands these democratic ideals", said Kombo, who is also the regional development minister.
Kibaki's drive for a single party has split the NARC top decision making organ, the Summit, which met here Sunday to seek a truce in the war of nerves raging within the ruling coalition.
