If he has been faithfully paying Kes.450K rent monthly, Steve Mbogo is among the top 10% smartest Kenyans. I have not said anything about being book smart. Looking at what he was working with (in terms of intellectual capacity), I give him an A+ for what he has achieved so far with his life.
I put him in the same league with Apostle James Maina Nganga, Bishop Wanjiru, Kalembe Ndile, Mike Sonko, Johnstone Muthama.
I choose to ignore the crooked means through which they achieved what they have, and celebrate their tenacity and sheer courage to gatecrash and demand their places at the high table.
Allow me to add Vera Sidika (she has average looks if you ask me) and our beloved DP. The latter literally bulldozed his way into a party he didn't belong neither was invited to. He had neither the family name, deep pockets or right connections to get where he is.
The common thread in all the above cases is the moral deficiency in their strategies. Why did they succeed ? Because they reflect who we are. Shrewd, conniving, hypocritical, corrupt, morally bankrupt nation. It follows that those who perfect these skills will always thrive.
Brash showing off like this is not very smart. Someone at KRA, CID knows if they look hard enough, there will be dirt, and there are screws to be turned. Showing off you have money? Dodgy government officials will help you spend it. Try and enter the mind of a senior bent cop; If yours is a suspect enterprise but you fly under the radar, one senior man can perhaps provide cover. If you are a loud mouth, his colleagues will go 'you have been having this gravy train all to yourself' and will want in.
If its a political seat he wants, he is going about it the wrong way. He ought to do the robin-hood-charity-alms-to-the-unprivileged subterfuge like a certain senator to confuse the stupid -which he isnt. Going to 'grand prickses' will not win him any constituents.
Things change. Godfathers lose power or retire or decide to drop you.
Mutula Kilonzo was untouchable when he was Moi's counsel. Moi left and KRA eventually got him. Al Capone was jailed on a tax evasion conviction. Examples abound.
