Recipe for civil war...cost of arms had fallen sharply: grenades now going for £4 (KShs 630/-) and Kalashnikovs for £40 (KShs 6,320).

I know its a bit off but trying to put it in perspective, a Kenyan mboch earning the min KShs 10,954/-can comfortably afford to buy a AK 47, and for bakshish even a coupla of grenades with change to spare in the Burundian underground arms market.

How can 1 effing indiv. want to destroy a country just coz of power?

actually a populace having weapons is not a bad idea! think about it right now everyone but you has a firearm. The police that is supposed to come risk their life saving you and the thug! I actually think if everyone had a weapon... people would think twice before showing up at your door step. The preriquisite would be conscript people into the NYS first then give them guns once they are done...

unless the countries are willing to send in their troops there is nothing much that can be accomplished.

But I understand the east african presidents have had several meeting with guys from Burundi, he even met the president some time back. Kagame has also been very vocal on the issue. Burundi has also been the subject at various regional meetings.

Or what do you mean by quiet ?

Do we have a weak regional balance of power? I believe so. The last time it was Mandela working for peace in Burundi, now who will take up the mantle? What deterrent force is there?

America seems to be overstretched...
