Very true and sad. yet we have all the top 3 supermarkets in Kisumu complete with state of the art Malls and hypermarkets...United Mall, Mega Plaza, Mega City, West End mall, Ukwala, Foamat, Swan Center. yet Nyeri despite producing a president and a Narc activist can only boast of Mathai mini-supermarket and Kamindi! Nyeri is also a problem of poor location, off the road to anywhere. Otherwise, to use your Supermarket indicator, Karatina, which is smaller is better served than Nyeri. What about Kisii? same off the main trunk road but have most key Supermarkets and Malls...the same truth remains, its the over-saving culture in the kiuk's blood. And Meru? Also off the road to anywhere but very fast developing. All supermarkets present, if it can be used as an indicator, real estate doing very well. Hospitality industry also growing fast. Thriving day & night economies. Take a look at a map. The only way you find yourself in Nyeri is a) if you were going to Nyeri or b) if you were going to Nanyuki/Nyahururu and somehow lost your way. You can't say that about Kisii or Meru. They are retail gems compared to Nyeri. I am not denying the fact about Kikuyus (over) saving but I think it is over rated. Otherwise Nairobi and Nakuru, both with Kikuyu population majorities, would not be the economic growth hubs they are. "The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. But the opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth." (Niels Bohr)

Nakumatt is the mark of growth? Affluence! Nakumatt was started in Nakuru and I dont think they have ever set foot there again after discovering Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa....more than 20 years later. They returned juzi, circa 2010. I always found it odd, knowing Naku in Nakumatt was derived from Nakuru then visiting the town and finding zero branches! In fact I used to buy personal effects in the Nakuru Mattress (Pioneer Nakumatt) near the stage on my way back to high school...then it sold the hardware-like self-service store/shop to Stage Mattress...the next thing I knew is seeing massive supermarkets in Naicity called Nakumatt... Then Gilanis was left to dominate Nakuru once more. (By the way @Masukuma, how is Gilanis fairing?) Portfolio: Sold You know you've made it when you get a parking space for your yatcht.

Most kiuks can afford sugar but will take dubia for breakfast with no bread or rabwon/nduma despite its abundance in the farm....The highest amount of money Baks has ever given in a Harambee is 100k. In other news kumbe MP for Tetu Mr. Gathenji owns the gated community that Waiguru lives?? Kweli some people have money and you can never tell. And the way that guy is always collected and calm in tv debates... but i digress With aname that sounds like senji what do you expect? I am sure he raked in something like 5 billion in pofit selling that estate but he still drinks light tea and banks 99.999% of the profit. Does it mean if you have money your kids become university material, how does the man die poor if he was saving all the cash, and if he died poor what is there to administer, if the kids did not want to join the father because he was strict in business why blame the man if the kids choose not to work under his strict rules.

The dad, the late Hon.Joseph Gathenji, was a 1st generation corporate kenya hot shot. He vied and won the tetu seat in 1992, having resigned from total. He left the family a huge fortune.

@Mseto. I disagree in the knowledge that levels of education among āthese peopleā are on average very impressive relative to the situation among many other communities. What may be true is perhaps their obsession with particular courses generally perceived to be relatively more lucrative. But what a hilarious thread!
