Forced to concur too; surprised there is no Nakumatt in Nyeri yet they have set up shop in smaller towns.

Very true and sad.

yet we have all the top 3 supermarkets in Kisumu complete with state of the art Malls and hypermarkets...United Mall, Mega Plaza, Mega City, West End mall, Ukwala, Foamat, Swan Center.

yet Nyeri despite producing a president and a Narc activist can only boast of Mathai mini-supermarket and Kamindi!

Nyeri is also a problem of poor location, off the road to anywhere. Otherwise, to use your Supermarket indicator, Karatina, which is smaller is better served than Nyeri.

What about Kisii? same off the main trunk road but have most key Supermarkets and Malls...the same truth remains, its the over-saving culture in the kiuk's blood.

And Meru? Also off the road to anywhere but very fast developing.
All supermarkets present, if it can be used as an indicator, real estate doing very well. Hospitality industry also growing fast. Thriving day & night economies.

Meru are not MAD savers like kiuks. They spend kiasi...si u see recently a Luo married they daughter in fleet of choppers.
Portfolio: Sold
You know you've made it when you get a parking space for your yatcht.

Nakumatt is the mark of growth?

Affluence!

Nakumatt was started in Nakuru and I dont think they have ever set foot there again after discovering Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa....more than 20 years later.

They returned juzi, circa 2010. I always found it odd, knowing Naku in Nakumatt was derived from Nakuru then visiting the town and finding zero branches!

In other news kumbe MP for Tetu Mr. Gathenji owns the gated community that Waiguru lives?? Kweli some people have money and you can never tell. And the way that guy is always collected and calm in tv debates... but i digress

Yes, they developed the land and sold the houses but still manage the Kihingo village Community. His family is also linked to Aberdare Safari Hotels, Treetops, Shimba and Outspan.

Google another stinking rich Nyerian billionare Paul Wanderi Ndung’u

Makes sense. Look at Nyeri, has many rich people but the town is stagnant. The biggest supermarket was Mathai until last year.
The town suffocates due to low circulation of money as most rarely spend, as does most central towns.

I understand the main challenge big business face in Nyeri is lack of adequate space. Majority of owners would rather plot remain idle, underdeveloped than selling hindering town expansion.
