The secret bribes of big tobacco paper trail

Bribes to MPs

BBC wrote:

A BBC investigation has uncovered evidence of bribery at one of the UK's biggest companies.
Panorama found British American Tobacco illegally paid politicians and civil servants in countries in East Africa.

In July 2012, Adell-Owino requests the purchase of a business class plane ticket to London for Kenya's former minister for trade, Moses Wetangula. The email says Wetangula will be "hosted at Globe House" - BAT's London headquarters.

Adell-Owino's email said the transaction should be "paperless" and there should be "no receipts if any in his name".

When Panorama asked Mr Wetangula about the email, he said he was "shocked" and "upset" and would take legal action against anybody circulating "such a crude rumour" against him. He said: "I did not receive any ticket or any money… I never had dealings with BAT."

Adell-Owino used a pseudonym (Amanda) and a non-BAT email address (boda.XXX@aol.com). She sent the emails to a BAT manager, who was also using a pseudonym (John Smith) and a non-BAT email (spartan30063@gmail.com). The manager forwarded them to a contractor known as "Andrew" to facilitate the bribes.

It's an open secret. My county senator has amassed so much wealth using dubious means.

He is still deluded that he will be president. Its sad for this country.

Let's have some more leaflets warning people from Mt Kenya. They are hellbent on ensuring the only capable Mulembe son does not send Uhuru home come 2017.

i think Weta is valuable to CORD because of the potential votes he commands but he is really not a person you should allow near your coffers! I sometime smile to myself when I see him criticise and lecture government . some of us remember him and his friend Kalooser AKA bwana shuttle diplomacy being enforcers of Kibaki's gafament and the real reason they joined CORD was because the constitution snookered them and njumbirii did not have seats to promise them.

He is useless to CORD.He doesn't command more than 150K votes. You are better off talking to the people of Tharaka Nithi.smile

At this rate I no longer think it is the politician, civil servant etc. who are corrupt.

The reality is that corruption runs in Kenyans blood. I think we need to nationalise it and agree how much to pay. E.G 10% for any transaction should be paid out as a bride. Anything above that should be made criminal.
