The Teachers Service Commission has dealt Knut and Kuppet a devastating blow by refusing to collect union dues on their behalf.

Traditionally, the teachers’ employer deducts union payments directly from the teachers’ salaries and remits it to the unions every month.

The decision to stop the tradition would make it next to impossible for the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) to get the money directly from its members.

Will this be the end of KNUT and KUPPET? Doesn't the law protect them?

Normally Union branches are non profit making and therefore all monthly remittance is spent in full with no balance in Acc. The TSC deductions was on just one on one goodwill gesture and not Mandatory. Knut and Kuppet Officials didn't heed to Midiwos Advice of being wise and knowing when to hit, when to slow down and when to retreat. Now they'll remain beggars on their knees. I held and still hold the View that Sossion was using Dom (read politics) to propel their Agenda instead of his brains. He's to blame for all those Woe's.

The end of strong Teachers unions has finally come and with it the end of perenial strikes.Time to reform education sector, have performance contracts in place to hold them accountable and above all they keep the 2% that Sossion was eating.

Sasa watengeneze unions huko mashinani where they can bargain as a region based on their specific needs like poor roads, poor learning facilities, hardship allowance based on their region, need for more teachers etc.

Poor Sossion!

It is wrong for this government to use mafia tactics to subjugate and kill the teacher's union. This is a union that has survived through the Jomo period, through Moi error, and Kibaki yrs. And now these boys want to kill it. How would you feel if your union is killed and your september salary is withheld by your employer. Then you are supposed to work happily and productively. After killing KNUT, they will move to the other unions such as UASU etc.

After the Kibaki years, employees and kenyans in general expected a govt that would take care of them even better than kibaki did. Not a govt that kills them economically, and professionally.

These lost boys have hit teachers and their union, frozen all govt employment despite thousands graduating each yr, then loaded all Kenyans with 27% interest rates. As the boys build 1.2B mansions in the village. Then we are supposed to hold hands and sing kumbaya, that all is well?

Workers Unions were meant to safeguard workers interests and at same time ensure the public receive the services they need adequately. There are Unions which have turned out to be spearhead personal, selfish and political ambitions. KNUT, KALPA, and Doctors/Nurses unions are among such.
On Sept Salary Sorry they didn't work for a single day..(not sick not on leave) my friend huwezi lipwa. They messed that day they ignored Abwodha's ruling (payslips were awaiting their return to work for printing) and came to heed so late. Those days of Ambrose Adongo they were practical and understanding. Present ones are just too selfish and unreasonable.

No @Hardwood.We are not happy.Nobody is happy.Over 50%of my relas are teachers and when they suffer ai suffer too.

However let this Teachers issue be dealt with in totality.KNUT has never downed tools for any other reason other than money.Yet you and I know there are other pressing needs. We also know teachers are not the least paid,we have worse situations.

Let discussions begin to solve all issues.

I desire a situation where we all issues are tackled.Eg House allowance for Nbi should be different from that of a teacher in shags etc.

But all is not lost. Sossion can use the 627627 pay bill number to collect the funds.

A form 2 student told me that teachers in his school have been on a go slow ever since they ended their strike. Is there hope in sight?

Serves them right. Knut's problem lies squarely with its leadership. They displayed a shocking lack of tact when dealing with jubilee.

It will provide university students in the future with a classic case study of failed leadership.

I put Sossion in the same category with current ncck boss, David Karanja. Classic ferguson-moyes transition.

Some here think the best way to sort the issue is to squeeze the teachers' balls until they 'salenda'. That the donkey should be whipped until it delivers the load. Maybe they are saying this because their kids are still in private primary schools but soon they will join public secondary schools. Imagine parents have paid high school fees and teachers are on go slow. And this is only year 2 of jubilee's alleged 20yrs in power.
