It will actually cost twice the cost of Mombasa to Nairobi which is currently quoted at KES. 692M.

The tenderpreneurs say this is due to the "tough" terrain...OKAY.

Even if we were to agree we lost money in mombasa-Nairobi section, why, with lessons learnt, couldn't they do competitive tendering do naivasha section? At this rate, nanaivasha - Nakuru section will cost 2b per km. Add 1b/km for every major town till malava

In fact the section between Nakuru and Malaba/Kisumu will be very expensive, could even hit 3B per km...this is where the line will have cut across the massive Rift Valley.

It was cheaper for the colonial railway to cross the rift valley since the line just meandered and followed the contours of the hills...for high speed SGR the line cannot meander much and it should generally follow a straight line...this will lead to some very long viaducts or long deep tunnels plus dangerous embankments!

Those of you who had the privilege to travel the Naks-Kisumu line will vividly remember the long and highly elevated viaduct between Turi and Elburgon which would swallow a whole 15 coach train...Crossing the Rift Valley sio mchezo.

Shame on you Shame on you Shame on you

Is the location of free zones in Naivasha the best option with the rail diversion being that costly? Isn't it cheaper to take electricity to say Nairobi or Mombasa than take the railway to Naivasha?

Projects are designed to make eating sense. More complicated, the better. Wanjiku gets shafted nicely!!!
