Eldoret would be super, we can get to torture the visiting teams with the high altitude. Building a stadium in Eldoret does not make economic nor sporting sense. Here is why Quote: it would be better to build a stadium in a region where sports like football, rugby, cricket and hockey are actively pursued on a weekly basis.
despite athletics being the sport that puts kenya on the international stage you still want us to pursue hockey and football. Tell me where in kenya do you get any of the above sports pursued actively on a weekly basis. We dont need a highe end stadia for athletics/marathons...the Kaleos can run along the countryside and then come an finish at an open community filed. the stadiums are not even for sports or financial gain, just for show and pride - even the one in nairobi struggle to survive on football and cricket alone. they have started throwing javelins, so a stadium will be in order to encourage them to start jumping long and high, throwing heavy rocks. very soon those heptathlon records will come tumbling down.

Stadia are very expensive to maintain. (tens millions of Ksh every year) In order for a stadium to be self sustaining, you have to have teams that play there regularly and that people pay to watch. Nobody pays to watch athletics. So if athletics is your main attraction, there will be no money to maintain the stadium. Government will have to dig into tax payer money. When you see your taxes going up, it is usually due to poor planning and white elephants. Either that or the stadium will simply fall into disrepair. A stadium in Eldoret is going to be a white elephant. It has no chance of being economically self sufficient. No one will hire it for music concerts or sporting events or even to train. Quote:Tell me where in kenya do you get any of the above sports pursued actively on a weekly basis. Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru etc are all viable candidates. They have teams that can rent the stadium on a weekly basis for training or for league matches. KPL matches are regularly played. Rugby and hockey teams exist in these towns that can hire the stadium to play or train. And so forth.

What is the performance of Kipchoge Keino apart from holding fake IDPs, 'Prayer' forums and chokoras!!!!! Formal education will make you a living. Self-education will make you a fortune - Jim Rohn.

Not much team sports is going on in this area In some towns, stadia are being used to graze cattle http://allafrica.com/stories/201203281198.html
If you want to build something in this area then perhaps build training camps to tap young running talent. But spending billions of Ksh to construct a stadium that will fall into disuse and disrepair should not happen as tax payers watch.

Unless EABL and Keroche decide to build a beer stadium where guys go to compete everyday to drink, no other sport can sustain a stadium in kenya. ati KPL matches don't make me laugh, ever been to a game between muhoroni youth and kcb, or sofapaka against city stars, or sijui ushuru vs chemelil

Enyewe you are ignorant Eti no stadium can be self sufficient? - Do you know that KPL teams pay City stadium 10,000 sh per day to train there? - Kenya Premier league clubs pay Ksh 20,000 to host a match at City stadium - A rugby tournament like Safari sevens when well organized, generates over Ksh 30 million in gate collections - Safari sevens also pulls millions more in sponsorships for the stadium - Nyayo stadium has a sponsorship from Britam that is worth Ksh 100 million over two years - Kasarani has a sponsorship worth ksh 110 million over two years - A match involving Gor Mahia or AFC when played on Msa, Ksm or Nkr can generate up to ksh 5 million of which the Stadiums get as much as 40% of gate receipts. I could go on and on.................. The point is if there is a KPL team in the town, the the stadium will generate some money. This is currently impossible in Eldoret. Also the sponsorship money from Britam & Safaricom makes your point mute since that alone can make a stadium self sufficient. But stadium sponsorship only comes if matches are played there.
