Democracy like many other things has a price. It is now official that the GOK is facing a cash crunch and one of the chief reasons is the huge size of government brought about by the new constitution.

What should be the way forward? Do we eat the humble pie and amend the constitution to whittle down the high number of government institutions by amending the constitution? As it is, things are only going to get worse.

that's when all these machida's started. remember the ministries growing by double? to massage some ego? equal partner b/s?

True very true if it helps save face. Evidence is there for all to see!

Some people forget Mwai Kibaki is retired and Tinga is not in gov't.

Mwai Kibaki's gov't was not bankrupt.

It's the gov't of the selfies that's broke.

I wonder where Mwai Kibaki comes in all this?

How does the constitution mandate someone to steal money from gov't and not be taken to court?

People fail to see the input of our able former prime minister who did a lot for the country.

I think we are judging jubilee unfairly. They never said they would fight corruption. Actually, corruption is not even mentioned in their manifesto.

I guess they looked at themselves when drafting the manifesto and went like, "who are we kidding?".

Jubilee are in power because of ICC and on handling Bensouda, they have scored an A+.

@Harry, there was a day Uhuru was campaigning and he said that we should stop looking at the rear mirror all the time otherwise we might cause an accident. This was in reply to people who kept saying we should vote RAO because he had done a lot in the past. He insisted the best thing we need to talk about is progress. And Ruto used to punctuate his every sentence with 'taking this country forward' Forward is not in the past, Nope.

Now using their analogy, we wont solve this country's problems by always looking back at who caused the problems we are going through.

Every time a Jubilee politician defends a current problem with 'It was caused by RAO' or 'even RAO/Kalonzo/Weta or whoever did not fix it when he was in govt' I feel mad. Why? The reason that they did fix it is the whole point that they were not voted. The whole point was they get in and fix the issues.

Its almost three years now. Looking behind the rear mirror every time a problem is pointed out will cause a serious and/fatal accident to the country.

I am more interested in listening and interrogating how the govt is doing to solve the issues than who caused the problems. I always pay attention and highlight those that makes sense to me.

I cant remember who said that "You haven't failed until you find someone to blame" That is my point. The duo need to highlight more on what is being done and cut us the slack on what RAO did not do. That's why we did not vote him in the first place; because he did not do, or we thought he cant do, what we expect them to do.

Now on the 'broke' story, that is a story I don't buy...Not with all the billions being returned to treasury without being utilized. In my opinion, Departments that fail to spend their development budgets should be treated same way with those stealing from Kenyans. You are given money to offer services to Kenyans and you dont yet there is evidence all over the place of areas crying for help!!! Yet you never fail to spend on recurrent budget? Kwani what are the people in there paid to do?

By the way even Kibaki govt was allegedly 'broke' at a point, yet kazi iliendelea tu: http://allafrica.com/stories/200405060076.html

“Government can never get broke, its people like you and me who can get broke,” Joseph Kinyua, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Republic of Kenya, March 10th 2009 When we were told that Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga (Principals to the Kenya National Accord) had settled on a Kenya Cabinet size of 43.
