The 91-day T-Bill is at 20.64% !!
The financial analysts, @Hisa, @Mnandii, kindly explain in a lay man's language what that means for the money markets.
Another question: For the non-competitive bids, does your return vary with the daily rates or your rate is fixed at what was prevailing at date of buying?

doubletap wrote:Quick question since it's banks that actually take part in the auction what happens to the small players as in 'wanjiku' what rate does she get? Is it the weighted average or is that what is applied to everyone? What happens when you buy through the bank do they charge a one time charge? Wanjiku gets the non-competitive rate. When filling the TB application form, she will state non-competitive since she does not know how to arrive at a competitive rate for each auction..

The money market is sucking out a lot of liquidity from the system. In short it means cash is becoming scarce.$15/barrel oil... What does this really mean? CBK wants 4B but accepts 12B three times what they wanted. Why not just ask for 12B in the first place? You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else - Albert Einstein

Its almost leveling now: Quote:This week the Central Bank of Kenya offered 182 and 364 Days Treasury Bills for a total of Kshs.8 Billion. The total number of bids received was 181 amounting to Kshs.4.88 Billion representing 121.94% subscription and 516 bids amounting to Kshs.20.64 Billion representing 516.02% subscription for 182 and 364 days, respectively. Bids accepted amounted to Kshs.4.87 Billion for 182 days and Kshs.16.26 Billion for 364 days Treasury Bills. The weighted average rate of accepted bids, which will be applied for non-competitive bids, was 22.291% for the 182-day and 22.363% for 364-day Treasury Bills. The other auction statistics are summarised in the table below. Portfolio: Sold You know you've made it when you get a parking space for your yatcht.

What would signal that they have mopped up all the liquidity from the market? You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else - Albert Einstein
