Hot on the heels of news that you can now buy TBills via mobile phone, the cash-starved government now offers the first-of-a-kind tax-free Treasury Bond on mobile.

From 21 Oct
Payable semi-annually

The Treasury in partnership with Safaricom, NSE & CDSC today launch M-Akiba. Minimum amount is Ksh. 3000 and the interest is to be paid semi-annually.

GoK now focussed on domestic borrowing as it has become too expensive to borrow offshore.
