What about ile 'Kafati' ingine ya upande wa Kitui?

There is no 'f' in Gikuyu language. The place is known as kabati.

Put an f to reflect the general pronunciation.

The people of Kirinyaga/Embu are the Luo's of Central province - thus the penchant to Anglicize names like, Difatha's, Kutus, Runyenjes, Siakago etc

Karatina - from the Muratina tree, one used to stand where the market now is.

Ndenderu is a slippery place.

Many of the names in the northern part of the Nyeri Valley and Nyandarua are from Maasai, specifically Samburu, who occupied the area before the Maa civil war. Thus names like Nyeri, Mweiga, Ol Kalou, Nyahururu, Maragema, Njororoko etc

While we are at it, who can tell me where the following names came from:
- Gatina, Rodkopany, Padpieri, Iveti, Gathatia ng'ondu

Shame on you Shame on you the Samburu, though Maa speakers, are a different entity to the Maasai, the section that was annihilated was the Ilaikipiak clan which was very powerful but warlike and quarrelsome, apparently the remnants of this clan were assimilated particularly by the Nyeri Kikuyu (hence their famed 'meaness') and to lesser extent some Ameru clans

I dont know how 'meaness' has to do with Maa speakers. But it is true almost half the blood in people of karatina - nyeri axis is maasai which informs the lilt of the gikuyu spoken there.

where did these come form

-kihunguro - fairly recent, means 'underpass' - like 'Makutano' you can expect several places to acquire this name as construction of high quality roads continues
-ngombe nguo - dead 'cow' - no idea
-githuki kwemunyaLaughing out loudly Laughing out loudly - is this near Gathuki mundu?
-thugunuiLaughing out loudly Laughing out loudly - corruption of a Masai name, Sugonoi (sp)
-karima mutiume - no clue
-kinyongero - place with high crime
-kinoo - used to be called 'Kinoo kia heho' no clue about origin
-gitambaya - no clue

By the way I recently found out that Membley Estate is named after the Gay colonialist who used to own the land. Perhaps the people who live there should change the name to Daykio?
