Kangubiri (kangufiri)was a minimum security holding place for detainees who had been declared reformed and were in the process of reintegration back to society. The colonial DC would then declare that "those ones can go free" and the homeguards and waitinas would say muthungu oiga acio ni kangobiri (mzungu has said those ones can go free.

nanyuki maasai called it ang'ata nanyookie or place of red soil
nakuru: massai called it place of nakurro or the whirlwind yaani kisulisuli

Maralal: the town was the first place to have a house roofed with iron sheets. so guys standing on the hills in Poro, Merti, Kirisia and other places would see the glitter of the ironsheets and a guy heading that way would say he is going to the place that shines maralal.

in Mugabeland Harare means in Shona they dont sleep like halali in swa (Shona is very close to swahili so never sengenya a mshona in swa)

I am told Juja is named after two jujus that were obtained from West Africa by a certain settler who owned the land stretching to Kilimambogo from the current Juja. One juju was called Ju and the other Ja. Not clear why he buried them in an undisclosed location around Gatuanyaga. Is it so?

Kinoo. There was a big sign post reading 'NO through way'Kiuks used to refer that place as 'haria hee Ki No'
loosely translated as that place with a big No hence Kinoo
Kihunguro I suspect is an underpass probably a railway line one

Another version has it that there was a big butter bean plant and the place was thus called Kinoe later changed to Kinoo.

.....and Muthiga along Waiyaki way was named after a tree that goes by that name in a local dialect. Others call it Wurbagia Ugandensis. My informant told me that the specific tree still stands today in its place.

Murang'a people mko? A place called Kafati on Thika-Kenol road was named after the first ironsheet-roofed structure owned by an ancestor called Job Muchuchu. Those who like it refer to it as Kafati ka Jofu.
