Haven't you seen Obi Mikel, a born defensive midfielder, always playing as an attacking midfielder for the national team? Mikel, in particular, playing in an advanced role is always the height of comedy given that the chap can't win a 100m sprint against a tortoise.
I think you are being economic with the truth. Mikel has always been an attacking midfielder first, Mourinho just chooses to use him as a defensive mid. I believe the case is the same for Wanyama.

He was an attacking player converted to a defensive player by Chelsea, as many african players are converted in Europe. In the under 17 World Cup Obi Mikel was the 2nd best player beaten by Messi playing an attacking position. Our very own Mike Okoth, the father to Divock Origi, started his soccer career as a goalkeeper but excelled as a striker.... Would you say he is a born striker or a born goalkeeper? Olunga is a good player and has the physique but i think he needs to work on his pace and work rate.....he reminds me of Giroud.
