Giving the teachers additional money will have a very positive effect to the economy in the long run. Why so, because the teachers are known to invest their money wisely. Look at the village where you come from and tell me who is most prosperous . If on the other hand the money goes to the elite, they will buy houses in Israel and london

you're only looking at one side of the coin.
what does that mean to tax payers?
17B a month means an extra 204B beyond what was budgeted for. it's not like the government will mint the money or something, it will have to come from tax payers pockets.
Me and you will pay for it some how through increased tax rates, that means higher cost of living even for the unemployed struggling to make ends meet. Higher salaries won't be the solution to their problems.

unfortunately no one has any moral authority to speak against teachers pay hike.MPs,MCA,Senators Judges, the hapless Sarah Serem commission etc.So the government should pay them and hope this spurs a national debate on public service salaries otherwise everybody should continue demanding for higher salaries until we reach Greek levels. Then we can take a cut,if that is the only way to learn.

True. It's the only way! A "casual" in the tea indystry is earning 23,000/= per month and a teacher 17k. And yes, the problem is disparities in salaries. MCA earning like a member of parliament? How many MCAs in Kenya?

huku ni wapi nitume mtu

its called taking stuff out of context smile, koroga casuals in mjengo earn 24k per month.
Lakini this only happens in very rare exceptional periods where work is guaranteed - but that cash will most likely be needed to sustain them for like 3-4 months.

If you are comparing teachers pay, that should be done with equal level civil servants, like nurses, cops and other clerical positions in the civil service.

Never understood why MCA's and MP's pay is always used for comparison.

Do we budget the corruption money we hear siphoned out every day? Yet we have not collapsed. Better iende kwa walimu

smile was just trying to explain your false assertion that casual workers earn more than teachers.
Everyone deserves a better pay, and a better life - I am sure teachers will be paid but someone else will have to accommodate that, and I promise you its not the corrupt individuals and their money.
Lakini the idea that teachers are paid poorly is just a smoke screen the unions use to push for more cash - which is not a bad idea, since their main objective is to have members wao paid more.

Wazuaguest, how true.. the judges, mps, mcas and teachers will continue armtwisting gov't mindlessly.. and earning bigger n bigger pay.. with dwindling national income, its not far fetched to forecast a time not too far in the future when scales could fall the other way.. leading to total inability to pay debts.. n Zimbabwe here we come.... Even then akina sosion and mps will continue mindlessly with annual strikes for highest pay.. like milking your cow without feeding till it dies, then continue milking
