Trump haendi popote. This is a publicity stunt. The man is an astute businessman. He knows what he is doing. he will look like a serious candidate and this whole thing could increase his net worth by another 10%. Trumps net worth is built in large part by his ability to generate publicity.
The crowded GOP field is also full of no hopers who are in it for the money. Akina Carson just the publicity so they can get more book deals. Some just want to put their name out there so they can be paid big money to give speeches or become lobbyists (who are paid big money). Others just want to get campaign finance money which they can use to fund their next senate run.
The GOP clown car is getting so big. Soon they will need a clown bus.
