People do indeed gain from violent conflict. Why do you think men fight so many wars and commit acts of brutality? It is precisely because they gain from it. Throughout history Human beings have been committing acts of brutality and they will never stop until there is a deterrent.
As to why the cases failed I think we all know its because no one in their right mind would testify against a sitting president. Thats why witnesses have withdrawn.
But I am not sad that the cases failed. I am glad we now have a deterrent. There is nothing that would stop violent conflict if not for the ICC.
