There is something POTUS said yesterday during the state house press conference and I hope PORK and his team were listening attentively:

The government should not be PARASITIC to businesses but an enabler!!!

To a great extent, our government is parasitic!!! Take an example of the tax on rental income. What do you call the government taking 12% of GROSS for years even before the owner/investor gets a single cent. Wazua landlords can tell you how long it takes to turn in a profit especially for residential rental properties. And all those years, the government will be taking 12% of gross!! PARASITIC to the core!!!

And you'll be in for a shock, the 12% on rental income is only to net you in.Once in, trust me the rate will be raised to 30% like all other taxes.Lets watch this space Pray Pray Pray
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.... Leo Buscaglia

I have always insisted that we need a strong opposition to keep the government in check and on toes but this our opposition has totally lost the plot!!!

The Obama visit and comments have just put the last nail on the opposition's coffin. Short of a miracle of biblical proportions the 2017 (or whenever) presidential elections will just be a corronation. No way Raila (or anyone else) is going to beat Uhuru! I don't even know who will fund the opposition. Anyone with ideas.

It is sad because with government knowing there is no realistic challenge, it might slacken. With a tainted and confused opposition, there might also be a tendency of those in government to engage in corruption, nepotism etc.

I really hope the opposition can reorganize and re-strategize. We NEED a strong opposition. Not a bunch running around like headless chicken!!!

How much strength do you want the opposition to have, strong enough to win next elections?

Strong enough to articulate without bitching and whining.

I was telling someone this morning who was so sure it was Kalonzo that it could even be Raila akakataa

I remember this time when Running Burger was even said to be sponsoring middle class and youth initiatives to look for alternative leadership away from the political class that was that time headed by Raila as Kibaki was retiring.

They were said to have considered Atwoli as a probable Presidential candidate

Hahahahahahhahahah Atwoli???? Of all people? That's just looking for disaster.

Yes!!! That would be the ideal scenario! A situation where any "current" government knows the opposition has a realistic chance of winning the election - especially if they don't deliver or mess up. That way they stay on toes. Mwananchi should always have a (realistic/hopefully better) standby alternative government should the "current" government sleep on the job.

Take Jubilee for example. Why are they increasing your taxes left, right and center? They know, come 2017, you don't have a better option! If there was an opposition with real solution to problems and workable plans that don't involve hiking of taxes, the current government would think very carefully before hiking them. But now, say CORD wins in 2017, what do we expect from them? What do they even stand for?? That pisses me off!! I should have atleast two realistic governments I should choose from based on their policies and how they affect me!
