Apparently, serious strategizing and negotiations are taking place in conferences rooms of most big hotels in Nairoberry and beyond. There is a new urgency in that millions of China’s western educated and newly rich have acquired a taste for good coffee.
In that regard, strategies are need in cornering this commodity’s market before it is lost to them.
I am not close to any Attendee but I have been trying to cultivate one with an aide attached to a CEO whose enterprise buys large amounts of coffee.
I complimented her on the rhyming of her hairstyle, earrings and lipstick. One thing is (hopefully) leading to another.
She is from Nyeri, graduated recently from a US University, and is interning with the enterprise. Her knowledge of the ground is highly valued in this trip.
The strategy is three phase pronged.
Strategy One:
Convince a son of a prominent farmer to have the enterprise granted a license to process and export Kenyan coffee.
Apparently, they have a piece of land in Kutus town and await results from discussions before construction and production start.
The said son is apparently a close family friend of PORK. I cannot however verify this. She is scanty on details due to the hash hash nature of the entire “Game”.
Strategy Two:
They are in advanced negotiations with three “XYZ” institutions regarding partnership in processing and exporting of coffee using the “XYZ’s” licenses.
The hope is that if this proves successful, others will follow.
Strategy Three:
There were three initial “Generals” involved. Nyeri, Kirinyaga and Embu Governors.
Embu and Kirinyaga are rega rega ing and are waiting to see how Nyeri goes. The Nyeri “General” was exported recently for medical attention after which some discussions on progress were discussed. Her words, not mine.
It was decided for the strategy to succeed, “colonels, lieutenants and foot soldiers were needed. As such, MCAs, Mpigs and Senators are being sounded for their opinions as we speak.
A number MCAs have been making international trips at the enterprise’s expense so that they can be influenced to support the strategy.
Another lot is youth organizations particularly those involved in the unregulated horticultural industry.
A number have leased land covered in coffee bushes to grow French beans, red pepper and other products.
These youth will apparently be co-opted as a vanguard against ignorance from ill-informed farmers, the “Mathina’s”.
The “meetings” are going on long into the night. She is using me as a sounding board, knowing I come from the area, Kirinyaga.
The direct flight issue seems to be festering on on its own and on hold for now. Apparently, private ownership of approach land to major airports and high population therein is a major issue. So is terms and conditions for air flight controllers and other airport personnel.
There was even a suggestion that the proposed Isiolo International Airport construction be fast tracked. The approach land would be secured against grabbing. Let’s wait and see.
