Free newsprint. A culture change?
With the rising of free newspaper, free online news and instant updates and free tv news, are we seeing the beginning of the end of the premium newsprint? I have a research study conducted for a small firm that shows that under 30 year olds do not purchase newspapers while less than 10% of under 35 year olds purchase mainly to look for advertised tenders. Anyway, just thought it was interesting. Would you buy a newspaper? Why or why not.

Anyway, just thought it was interesting. Would you buy a newspaper? Why or why not. I still occasionally buy the sunday paper even though you can get a soft copy. Monday to Fri I just look for the free soft copy! You will know that you have arrived when money and time are not mutually exclusive "events" in you life!

I think the best way to gauge the impact of free online news is to look at the annual reports of the major media houses. and it looks like people are still buying newspapers and purchasing advertising space going by this year nation media annual report which shows the newspaper division grew by 1%

Those guys distributing the papers are employees of Mediamax. Not new employees. They were there even before the free era according to my source The mgt, according to my source, realised they were incurring lots of costs for distributing and returning unsold copies. Yet the sales were too low. So they opted for th free option where there would be zero costs of returning and more Kenyans would get to read the paper! I think it's a great strategy. But they need to work on content.

Impressive strategy. I you note that for those whose target market is the Kenyans who cant affort the normal newspapers then this is where to advertise ..Excellent

Not sure but the X news seems to be distrubited in the evening , if that is the case then there is an issue with the strategy advisor
