I was at a church fundraiser in Endarasha yesterday.I was fascinated by what a community can do.The congregation is divided into families.Each family is given responsibility to build the church and the community.The church focuses on four main areas:Spiritual,Moral,Economic and social empowerment.All the members of the family identify their different talents and capabilities.They then use their skills to better the community.All the young people from class 6 to university have mentors who are either university students or have gone through the university.They are trained on alcohol and drug abuse,gaysm and lesbianism,family planning and other social aspects.
There is also economic empowerment training for the members on how to save and invest.They have a sacco where they save and give members loans.They are also taught how to use technology to get better farm yields.
The members of the community donate 10% of their farm produce to the church which is currently building a school to accommodate the different forms of training.
There is a members Kamukunji for the members to air their views and criticize the management or bring new ideas to the church community.
I must say I was very impressed by the community and the fact that they are ready to protect and guide the next generation of this country.
