Petr Cech has announced his arrival at Arsenal by making clear that he intends to almost win a number of trophies before ultimately falling just short. Cech, who won a number of important honours at Chelsea, plus four FA Cups, told journalists that his relentless success at Stamford Bridge had left him jaded and he was running out of places to put his medals. "I've won titles almost every year I've been here, and the time is right to say enough is enough," Cech said. "At this stage in my career I need a new challenge that involves coming second, or third, or best of all, fourth.

The Czech Republic international denied that he was betraying a lack of ambition by moving from west to north London, insisting that ambition came in various guises, and that he was mostly looking forward to owning a boat one day. "Winning isn't everything," the 33-year-old told FourFourTwo. "And I'm delighted to have joined a club that agrees." He added that he could probably find space for a Fair Play award, and an Emirates Cup participation certificate, but that he was now intending to use his time at Arsenal to concentrate on whittling, home-brewing his own beer, and learning the saxophone.

Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta said: "Petr knows all about winning trophies, and he's told us to forget about that and reflect instead that nothing in life beats drinking a fine bottle of wine with friends while watching the stars. He could be the player to take us to the next level. By which I mean the level of consciousness that medals and cups can bring only fleeting pleasure, and that true fulfilment comes only from within."

sounds like he's joining a religious group and not a competitive football club.

Juve have turned down an offer of 80M Euros from Barca for Pgba - same guy who left Utd for free 3 years ago - very painful for Utd fans. Meanwhile Gundogan has signed an contract extension at Dortmund - seems like any person linked with Utd is being removed from the list one at a time - Clyne was the other one. Waiting to hear Ramos has signed a bumper contract till 2019.....

United will still sign someone. Di Maria will be like a new signing this season. We will start feeling his impact

You need to sign a Keeper first because De Gea is determined to leave, i actually expected Man Utd to sign Cech. De Gea will definitely leave for Madrid before the end of the transfer window, reports indicate the deal could be about £24.8m.

No place for Wellington Silva in the current set up. He will most likely be loaned off to lower leagues.

Referees could not tell the difference between Gibbs and Oxlade. The situation will get worse with Wellington. The three lads could be from the same father!

Italian first choice right back Darmian set to join Utd for 14.1M pounds....now that's the kind of signing I like, low key but highly rated, voted Italian player of the season. Seamus Coleman would have definitely come for over 20M pounds.

@Taz, 25M pounds for De Gea is a joke. Anything less than the world record fee for Buffon and it's better to let him run down his contract and leave for free, Utd are not desperate to sell, it's Madrid that are desperate to buy, especially if rumours of Porto making a move for Casillas are anything to go buy. If Madrid can't up their price then they throw in Ramos, whom I don't particularly care for, as am sure he's using Utd as a bargaining chip. Otamendi would be cheaper and his performances at Copa America proved he is the pedigree we need. He'd be perfect alongside Rojo with Smalling and Jones as replacements.

In the meantime, deal for Schneiderlin should be wrapped up next week as Saints hold up for more than the 20M pounds Utd offered. From there, we just get Chicharito back and buy a Benzema or other proven goal scorer and a premier league title challenge should be credible.

Best signing will be keeping De Gea, and Di Maria to some extent.

@Smano....I really doubt you'll get more than 30m for De Gea, he has one year left on his contract and if you don't sell him now he'll be free to negotiate terms with Real in January. I don't believe Real will be desperate to secure him regardless of the amount because they still have Keylor Navas who is also a decent keeper.

ION, RVP is currently undergoing medical at Fenerbahce.

Am also impressed with the signings Lvg is going for..Deepay was Dutch league player of the season now we get Italian player of the season (right back). According to analysis, Schneiderlin was rated better than Chelsea's Matic last season.
If we get Otamendi and Schneiderlin we are good to go. Utd can win the trophy now

Well, we'll see how it goes coz window is open till Sep 2nd. Since Utd fans knew we were going to lose him anyway, there'll be no surprises there, all we need is a good replacement to bench Valdez. There was no point of buying a 32 year old to replace a 24 year old, much as Cech is good. There are many good young goalies out there, like Oblak of Athletico Madrid

As for RvP, he gave us his best season and 20th title, after that the decline has been inexplicable. Frankly at this moment I rate chicharito much higher simply coz of his poaching instincts, but Utd will need a proven scorer, because Rooney is not that person.

@Smano....Edwin Van Der Sar signed for Man Utd at the age of 34 and went on to be one of the best keepers in Europe.

manutd want trophies my friend not names like Rvp. Let him head to Turkey. Raphael Da Silva will be following him as well.
Bring on schneiderlin, schweinsteiger, otamendi and one striker (eg Muller) and we close the business. Hopefully De Gea remains.

He won but does not seem to be very excited about it now.
He expected to be a legend at Old Trafford rather than a one season wonder!
