With licenced traders being targeted too, the funding of 2.1trillion 2015 budget is endangered. Corruption in. Government officials to blame for the alcohol menace. I don't think the current approach will achieve anything in the long run. Just more shattered legitimate livelihoods and additional hopeless youth.

Two weeks ago, I was watching a TZ channel,Star Bunge, where a local mp conducted raids on brewing dens in the Kilimanjaro area. I was shocked to learn that human waste was one of the ingredients used in the brewing process and wondered how long before Kenyan brewers caught on.

Then I happened to be in Naivasha during last week's raid and word on the street was that sewage effluent is also used by some of the illicit brewers there.

<<<Four thirsty men collapse due to lack of 'kutoa lock' brew>>>

The incident followed the destruction of 50,000 bottles of second generation alcohol in an exercise led by area MP Wachira Karani.

Some residents condemned the operation saying they cannot work without 'kutoa lock'.
