What is your biggest regret to date?

My biggest regret is the new constitution. it is a decent constitution but the wage bill it has burdened the tax payers with, I feel we need a re - look at it: Musalia Mudavadi on The Scoop (VOX Africa) - With Salim Amin

I told everyone who cared to listen way before they voted "Yes". The governance structure (was) is extremely top heavy and most of our resources (will be) are being used on recurrent expenditure starting with salaries. Now everyone has started seeing the point. But reversing this will be one herculean task!!! The vested interest - and they are extremely many - will definitely not give up their gravy train without one hell of a fight. As far as they are concerned, Kenya and it's people and economy can go to hell as long as their pockets a lined with our hard earned cash.

"The 'small' problems will be rectified after the constitution is passed"! And you guys swallowed that and in the processes took me, my money and my country down with you!

That is what happens when emotions overtake reason!!! I predicted everything that is happening now including institutionalized tribalism and devolved corruption!!!

Were it not for the new Constitution, he would still be a Minister courtesy of the Luhyia "national" politics. He has all reasons to regret.

That's akin to saying we should have remained in Egypt. This constitution was enacted after many years of deliberations and discussions. There were a lot of compromises and give and take and what we came up with is a reflection of that. Granted it has come with its fair share of problems but that's because we are not yet in Canaan even as we aspire to reach there. We shall continue to make many mistakes as we move forward. It's part of the learning process

Has anybody ever sat down to think where the money we dish to counties come from, and whether by dishing the money, are we really supporting the sectors that contributed that money in the first place? If the money comes from meaningful economic activity, and then we keep giving this money to counties to fund non-economic activities- eg foreign trips, buying fuel guzzlers, etc. You do not need to be a rocket economist to see that the current model is very likely, in the long run, bring this country to its knees

I can't believe you still buy this story. We rejected a constitution before and another one was drafted. Had we rejected that one, another one (hopefully better) would have been drafted.

This issue if you either vote for this one or remain with the old one ad infinitum was used to confuse the naive! People had forgotten that they had rejected another one not long before.

This one changing - especially reducing elective posts and money (loot) shared - mtakaa kaa! The fellowship of thugs got together and hoodwinked you. They will get together and fight back should their gravy train be threatened.

ONLY OPTION IS CITIZEN DRIVEN FIGHT FOR CHANGE!!!

Don't count on ANY politician to help in this!!!!

Kwanza these idiots are just demanding more money and they are not adding value to the economy. As you are saying, using money generated by other parts of the economy for foreign travels, building/buying mansions and cars, leasing right, left and center, paying salaries to people we can do without etc. is as stupid as they come.

It is like making several trips to the river and pouring the water in a container full of holes!

Stop changing the topic

Musalia regrets the new constitution because he can't be selected minister of sitting down every day.

Kenyans did not have a choice between lower wages or higher wages.

The choice was very clear

Stick with the old constitution which was used to throw people out of Nyayo house windows or chart another path.

Kenyans decided to chart another path and reject the old completely.

Now lets talk about improving on what we have. That old one ain't coming back.

With current model, counties will continue to demand more and more, and think less and less how to generate their own money. A better model would be to allow counties generate own revenue(and collect taxes) commensurate with their devolved functions and then pay certain percentage to central govt. The current system( including some aspects of the NYS program )will have same effect as printing money.
