Western Kenya Economic Empowerment

Western Kenya's reliance on sugarcane as its main cash crop is not sustainable. The cane takes too long to grow there, the farms are small it definitely will be hard to compete with other major producers in Comesa. Western already has one industry wiped out in the name of Webuye Paper Mills and Mumias is another catastrophe waiting to happen. The infrastructure for an industry that processes agricultural products is already there and my recommendation would be to use the same infrastructure but turn to a different crop.
The County assemblies of Vihiga, Kakamega, Busia and Bungoma should convene and declare Cannabis Sativa their economic empowerment crop with funds allocated for its development. The people are already familiar with growing it and the Webuye and Mumias companies can easily be retooled to make them the world's biggest Pot factories in the world. Bull fighting can be combined with an annual carnival celebrating the crop and I can bet this will attract more tourists than all the Game parks and beaches combined.

World bank has identified "Malawi Gold" or chomba as finest marijuana in the world, and truly it is the best and one of the highest priced/demanded commodities currently there is a major tourist and economic boom in Malawi due to demand for chomba, people take intercontinental flights to smoke chomba, plus it is Holy to many, treating many diseases. For Mukombera to be effective,it has to be eaten fresh,preferably 2-3 hrs after uprooting.......ask kysse If Obiero did it, Who Am I?

I am not he nor have I ever met him. He might be a wazua reader but even more probable is that he is seeing what other people are seeing which is that sugarcane farming and milling are not sustainable in Western Kenya and that the people there should start looking for long term solutions. At this moment Mumias and the sugar industry is surviving solely on the strength of the Luhya votes. It is a purely political decision to keep it running when all economic common sense is saying abandon it and do something else. As soon as the votes cease to matter it will be left to the fortunes of the market and market forces are ruthless, just look at Panpaper. It is a failure of imagination on the part of leaders when all their promises to the people are about going back to how things were. We want to revive Mumias so that it is as it was, bring back Pan paper, let us revive KMC or KFA or Pyrethrum Board etc etc. It is time people started looking forward to a future like it has never been. Let them dare to go forward where no man has gone before. We can be the Mukhombero or Canabis leader in the world.
