In the light of the expected good outturn for 2009 in the results due to announced by this Friday, I've been looking at StanChart to see if I could eat from it in the coming yr.
Shockingly, if you compare the StanChart to all the other banking stocks over the last yr, ocly the junk CFC Stanbic comes off worse. And yet, the stock has some ingridients to attract a medium-risk investor. I hope it announces a bonus share issue to attract the price conscious Kenyans.

@wa-ithaka What parameters are you using for comparison? Please do tell of these ingridients you are talking about.

Oooh, this one courtesy of Wazua - News. Just saw the link on the News, Home section. Seems the parent has already announced, let's wait for Friday.

Standard Chartered has reported record profits in 2009 and criticised some recent proposals to regulate banks.
Pre-tax profits were $5.15bn (£3.4bn), up 13% from 2008. Total pay and bonuses rose 4% to $4.91bn.

The bank's profits were fuelled by strong performances in fast-growing economies such as China and India.

India generated more than $1bn in profits for the bank in 2009, its second market to do so after its Asian base of Hong Kong. In 2009, income from its top 50 clients increased by 38%.

Standard Chartered - which did not directly accept taxpayer support during the crisis - also came out strongly against proposed regulation of the banking sector to prevent future financial crises.

Wanted to go in at start of year but my broker advised me against it.

Thats the last piece of advise I ever sought from the man.
