Of late I've been spending time trying to understand my operating environment- call it 'PESTLE' analysis; and what I see is simply crushing. Especially for an outsider like me. There seems to be no place of refuge from a very sophisticated and powerful force in the form of the State. No matter where I try to look.

I always wonder, for example, isn't there a lot of irony in Snowden finding refuge in Russia?

That video of police stealing is very telling. However it is not unique to police. Every segment of our society steals. Remember how KDF looted the mall. And Doctors have been looting drugs from government hospitals for decades. This is the society WE have created. One where corruption and impunity from bigwigs is tolerated on election day. People look at bigwigs grabbing land and looting government coffers and wonder : "why not us?"

I am glad that light is being shed on the police now. But we must be honest with ourselves about what the solution is.

on tuesday this week two cid officers identifying themselves as ATPU made me write a statement after they alleged that I aided in escape of alshabab suspects. this arose since I asked the guard at our premises to move aside as the group was blocking an entrance.. during this action on my part, there was a uniformed policeman with a gun standing by. now I have been asked to bribe the officers or risk having my fingerprints taken and thereafter incarcerated.. just today, one of the cid had the nerve to call me so as to remind me that I must pay up! i dont see where I erred and so am ready to die. just thought i'd post this here incase I dissapear. thanks wazua

do you have the service numbers of the said officers? did they show you IDs or it was just verbal ID? did you write the statement in with your lawyer present?

The statement was my own recording of events as it occured. I saw the ID of one of the CID and they are also on cctv since my workplace is under the same. Just called my lawyer prior to writing the statement and she said its ok so long as I do it as a witness, not suspect.. I even have texts from the officer who is tryin to blackmail
