This is a miss. Real issues to be addressed is why foodstuff is being imported. A tilapia from China is going for 160 while one from lake Victoria is at 800 bob.

I was surprised ati we are eating chicken from China!!! I couldn't believe it!

One thing people don't realize is that, life gets so difficult with these kind of rules. When the mama mbogas increase the price of tomato to sh50/nyanya, it will not affect CORD or Wiper or Jubilee sycophants alone. It affects everyone. So while, Jubilee sycophants are quiet, they don't know they will be in the same boat as everyone.

Let the govt ensure that the food we eat is produced and handled safely. One would rather pay a few more shillings for the tomatoes than end up paying millions for cancer treatment abroad....or die of cholera.

Also if meat, milk and other agricultural produce is marketed in standard measurements, how come sukuma, tomatoes etc can't be weighed and sold at a standard prices to ensure fairness kwa mwananchi?

Good move by the govt. This has always been done for export produce since mzungu is very keen on the quality of food he consumes. But it is not done for local produce. Personally i want the govt to ensure that the sukuma and nduma etc i buy are not grown with sewerage water huko dandora and have been handled in a hygienic manner and are fit for human consumption. This will also ensure that farmers don't feed us with vegetables that have just been sprayed with dangerous chemicals (that kill us with cancer) since they have to observe the pre harvest intervals.

Also if i pay 30% tax, i don't see why other kenyans including the vegetable sellers shouldn't as long as their income reaches the taxation threshold. Some of these so called mama mbogas are millionaires, supplying hotels, schools etc, and can put the blue subaru middle class guys to shame income-wise.

Keep dreaming!!! The government will not control anything! Did you see the hullabaloo when they were forcing Kenya Bureau of Standard stickers on everyone?? People thought everything would be subject to stringent quality standards before it can qualify for fora sticker! Shock on everyone. It was just a sticker selling business. Even @Obiero's Jameson from Kariobangi has the stickers. so does all sorts of crap from all over. And in all any case, is the farmer planting the vegetables in the kiosk or market?

One more thing, Mama mboga will never pay tax. Ever! She will simply pass it to you the overtaxed Kenyan!!! I have repeated this a million times and some people never seem to understand. I told people the same thing during the landlord's tax discussion and people did not believe me. I told them the landlord will simply pass the tax to the tenant. People said oh, the government has instructed them not to. Oh sijui nini... Saa ngapi. BAT passes the tax to you, EABL the same. Safaricom kama kawaida. etc. And you expect your landlord and mama mboga to bear the bear the extra cost on your behalf?? Never gonna happen.

@ jaggernaut - Do you live in Kenya??? How many agencies do we have?? How many actually do what they are supposed to do.

And you reasoning is totally faulty!! The sewage and chemicals you talk about, zinawekwa na mama mboga! And all over sudden she will stop because she is in a market built by the County. How does the County market stop Sewage vegetables from getting sold there. They accompany the traders to the source of the vegetables? You still buy fake medicine, perfumes, clothes, electronics, imported food products with harmful chemicals and banned lotions and cosmetics in the middle of the CBD and you imagine a County market will save you from Sewage vegetables and recently sprayed produce??? And you have dreams!!!
