What would be a better investment? Putting a 100K in Centum shares for 5 years or putting 100k in the Bond at 13% pa for 5 years? I would say buy Centum shares and hold for 5 years instead of buying the bond. The shares could double or triple in 5 years given the growth record of this company. You could make 200-300% or more in 5years if you buy shares. With the bond, you will only make 65% in 5 year before you factor in inflation and annual tax. Also if you want liquidity, shares is the way to go.

Centum is the Berkshire-Hathaway of Kenya, buy it now not tomorrow otherwise you will say your were there, you saw it and did nothing. Forget the bond, buy the shares and hold it forever. Let the institutional investors and international money managers buy the bond. Kenya is in a high growth phase right now, don't be too conservaative, don't and settle for 13% simple interest, take some risk. Unless off course you are a retiree and your objective is capital presearvation before growth.

Centum is in a tight liquidity position. They do not have adequate cash to execute their plans and that's the reason they are borrowing.
The company took a short term loan to buy the K-rep stake and will use proceeds of the bond to retire the loan i.e replacing short with long term loan

I will gamble with the shares instead.
