These don't seem to be new issues, what this article highlights is what many commentators have recently been writing about. KQ addressing these issues and a bit of PR would be a step in right direction, remember customer's perception of a product definitely impact sales hence bottom line.

@thiongo true.. the PR machinery at KQ has broken down. Allegations of corruption cannot be bandied about and the company remains quiet. The loud silence is questionable

Or true. Did you see any directors defending the CMC officials after the Jersey accounts came to light?

Just when I was about to test these murky waters... Does this mean a dilution of ordinary shares?

In the line to become among the few counters where the share price equals the par value. By end month this may be a reality

As far as the speculative deal talks are concerned I'll recall a wise saying, "It's better to own 10% of an Elephant than a 100% of a Rat." ~tafakari

Going by this un-mediarised version..

AWAS to acquire and then lease three 787-8 Dreamliners to Kenya Airways

Quote:
30APR2015 AWAS announced today that it has agreed to a purchase and leaseback transaction for three 787-8 Dreamliners with the flag carrier of Kenya, Kenya Airways. These aircraft were originally ordered by the airline directly from the manufacturer and the first of the three aircraft has delivered today.

http://www.aviator.aero/...&utm_medium=twitter

..the question on my mind is had KQ already borrowed to buy the jets? If so, then this purchase & leaseback is a major relief when KQ offsets the debt.

Looking back, it's now good to have fluid fundamentals - literally!

The KQ Team can then focus with being customer centric. Deliver the experience of the 'youngest fleet in Africa"!

---
To AWAS I'd say, "Good on ya mate! Cheers.."

Project mawingu cancelled.
I was one of those that said it wasn't feasible. If a non expert in the airline industry, non accountant like me can see a fault in a companys strategy that a whole board goes ahead and persues, kq was in very bad hands. And don't think that much has changed.

which right minded investor would pour 18 billion to a financially mismanaged loss making firm? Unless its the chinco gov. or an airline buying out most of Gov's stake.
The investor's chief problem - and even his worst enemy - is likely to be himself

Focusing on actionables, KQ doesn't need a equity partner to raise 18B. The going rate for a new 787 is USD180-200M. Now, KQ has 5 of it's older fleet up for sale. Reportedly a 767 and 4 777-200s. The issue is how soon they can be sold.

Cancelled is incorrect. Halted is more appropriate. Cancelled means the return of all equipment, which isn't the case.
I don't think mawingu was a bad strategy, it got delayed by nearly 4 years. Had it run on time, it would probably be a different story today.

Will help clear debt, but would result to more losses
