In the spotlight of the election frenzy, when Narendra Modi was busy anticipating his win over Rahul Gandhi, in a small constituency named Mahasamund in the state of Chhattissgarh, a brilliant demonstration of the term "Jugaad" was taking place.
According to what was declared by both major parties in the region, Congress candidate Ajit Jogi and BJP candidate Chandu Lal Sahu were contesting against each other for the same seat.

However, at the eleventh hour, everyone was taken by surprise only to find out that there were 12 other people of the name "Chandu Lal" or "Sahu" or both contesting for the same seat.

The following figure shows the relevant stats:

When the day of casting their vote finally arrived, the voters of that region, who were mostly illiterate, were confused about the correct candidate to cast their vote.

As a result of this, the votes cast towards the real "Chandu Lal Sahu" decreased considerably and were split among the rest of Chandu Lal Sahus.

After the elections, when the media investigated into the matter, it was found out that somebody searched the whole constituency's voter list specifically for people named "Chandu Lal Sahu" and forced them to contest the elections somehow. Infact, some of these people didn't even know about the ongoing elections.

mumezoeshwa mbaya... you tend to think everywhere is like Kenya... (do you know hoe crazy it is to make ballots with photos on them over the short period after nomination and before printing while factoring in QA, printing and logistics) most places don't have photos and India with it's 800 million voters will certainly not be one of the few that have photos on a ballot.

President Charles King won the 1927
presidential elections with a
landslide victory that earned him a
place in history – but different from
what he might have imagined. The
Guiness Book of Records (1982)
qualified the elections as the most
fraudulent ever reported in world
history. Suffrage was constitutionally
limited to some 15,000 citizens, all
Americo-Liberians, but according to
the official election results some
240,000 votes were cast in favour of
Charles D.B.King.
