Whoever is supposed to act on intelligence MUST act on intelligence or just go home and save us misery.

Likoni Mall, 4 arrested just a few minutes ago. The Facebook updates I've seen are like reading a movie script.

Good job!

One Western diplomat said Kenya, a staunch Western ally in the fight against radical Islam, continues to receive help from Western intelligence agencies but struggles to act on it.

"The fundamental challenge for them is being able to deal with that kind of information, and their capacity and capability of digesting it," said the diplomat.

I think its not fair to play down the role of the other security organs in the incident, this seemed like a very complex situation given the scale and size of the area.
The kawaida cops will always responded first and protected the surrounding, the army brings in their firepower for reinforcement and after that the special units attempt to take out the terrorists.

We can blame Moi for everything else but something went badly wrong after Kibaki took, security turned into tenderpreneurship and we have never recovered!!!!

Its simple, we never changed with the times. The dynamics of crime and terror changed, but we remained the same, expecting to do everything the same way and get results. Tenderprenuership dint start in 2003 it was there all through.

We can no longer expect people without critical thinking skills to be incharge of our well being. We need to change with the times and become more brutal. Another thing....our laws are stupid. And no one is fixing this

True but under Kibaki, it became the only thing!!!

I dont know what you mean by saying the only thing and i dont understand how tenders are affecting security, anyway....

Instead of building a wall, why not invest in surveillance? The technology exists who cant scale up a wall or dig a tunnel underneath it? Someone once told me that they suspect Kitui national reserve is used by these people....am beginning to see his point

I wonder if that guard would know how a grenade looks like?

One time I asked a guard at Yaya Center what he would do if he found me carrying a grenade. He told me to leave him alone to do his work. Clearly he had not answer to my question.[/quote]

Its very clear that these terrorists aim is to kill as many victims as possible. I wonder why the security forces had to stay outside and yet they were not negotiating with the terrorists for the release of the hostages.
Gun men on a suicide mission need to be dealt with differently. The Rescue KDF should have forced their way in as early as possible and stop the terrorists from inflicting many deaths.
I think four men with Ak47 and G3's can be handled quickly. A simple slightly thick steel sheet can form a good shield to enable one go within a shooting distance of a terrorist and kill them.
Designing a complete metallic attire to cover the entire body of a soldier for such incidents.

They don't kill women...but they still end up dead.

We can confidently state that the government had advance knowledge of the attack. The Australians say the warning they gave Uhuru was about two terror attacks and not one - and the second was Garissa.
Sky News Australia......it does appear the attack was allowed to happen for whatever reasons.[

The mind and the body don't exist. What's there? Being. Security is about optimal being. Not soldiers, or weapons.

If there's an enemy then it's our delusion and ignorance. Al Shabaab and c. are our scapegoats.

It appears the Special Forces only went in after dusk, perhaps aided by night vision equipment in the cover of darkness. Yet if it was known the attackers were only about 4-5, that means only 1 or 2 were stationed at the rooftop. This means they could have been overpowered if KDF approached the hostel from multiple directions in the early stages? I think the commander in this operation did not do the best he could have done, or our troops are still not trained for this kind of combat/hostage situation-very sad.
