RT @ahmednasirlaw: The attack in Garissa is obviously the work of Kenyan Somalis. Let us not blame Somalia's alshabab. This is local..indigenous and v local.

the directive given earlier today in regard to recruits flies in the face of rule of law.

Someone thinks that recruiting people who probably got their jobs through illegal methods is the way to have a police force that works to stem illegality.

In the meantime, lets construct a wall in Mandera. Another great idea for the tenderprenuers.

As you can see, the terrorists were not in Mandera but 200 kms away deep within Kenya.

This is a failure on the part of this govt. The proof is 147 Kenyans dead....Again.

I think we now need to have police posts in our institutions. Like it is in the US

I remember a piece done by Jicho Pevu and Allan Namu Keche Keche Mpakani

The gov't sent its troop online to prove that Moha was a terrorist.

I'm 100% sure there was intelligence on this attack. But of course if the President laughs it off with taxi drivers vs Obama and the CS Security starts using statements like they are saying this because they hate us, how is the County Commissioner supposed to take it seriously?

One attack is a sad thing and the nation unites. 2, 3, 4, 5 and more than 500 Kenyans dead in 2 years of rule is not a laughing matter.

Something is wrong and needs to be fixed. There should be no more excuses on the lack of implementation of the Police Service Act.

This weekend there are strong warnings on Nairobi and Coast from credible sources. Shopping malls, national tourist sites, government functionaries and churches. Govt obviously doing what it can to prevent any further loss of life. Exercise maximum caution.

A general solution will not be effective in this kind of threat. These terrorists have time on their side, even if you had Police posts, they will spend months studying targets to pick soft spots. Plus if Kiganjo is like our other institutions, then the curriculum used to train Police is not update with the times. Chances are that the tutors concentrate on strategies against traditional crimes. In times like this, you cannot rely on government to give solutions, since what is required is some very radical change starting from training and resourcing and deployment of police. Due to beuracracy, it would take upto ten yrs for government to catch up. In the short and medium term, Institutions should go for private solutions to complement govt

You can imagine the bashing Nkaisery would have given Ole Lenku had this happened under Lenku's watch. Anyway, in my opinion, this is all a result of corruption... Sad

Eye-witness Collins Wetangula, the vice chairman of the student union, said he was preparing to take a shower when he heard gunshots coming from Tana dorm, which hosts both men and women, 150 yards away.

The campus has six dormitories and at least 887 students, he said.

He said that when he heard the gunshots he locked himself and three roommates in their room. 'All I could hear were footsteps and gunshots, nobody was screaming because they thought this would lead the gunmen to know where they are.

'The gunmen were saying sisi ni al-Shabaab (Swaihi for we are al-Shabaab).'

Mr Wetangula said he could hear the gunmen interrogating fellow students hiding inside their rooms about their religion.

He said: 'If you were a Christian you were shot on the spot. With each blast of the gun I thought I was going to die.'

The gunmen started to shoot rapidly and it was as if there was an exchange of fire, he said.

'The next thing, we saw people in military uniform through the window of the back of our rooms who identified themselves as the Kenyan military.'

The soldiers took him and approximately 20 others to safety.

As they were running, al-Shabaab snipers on top of a three-storey building attempted to gun them down.

He added: 'We started running and bullets were whizzing past our heads and the soldiers told us to dive.'

Fellow student, Augustine Alanga, 21, described a panicked scene as gunshots rang out outside their dormitory.

He said he saw at least five heavily-armed terrorists wearing masks.

He said: 'I am just now recovering from the pain as I injured myself while trying to escape. I was running barefoot.'

He told journalists he crossed barbed-wire fencing to escape the massacre.

Mr Alanga said any students attending morning prayers at the university's mosque at 5.30am were not attacked.
