They restricted the equipment to Embraer E190 and Boeingf 787-800

Perhaps they are hoping international carriers will increase direct flights to Dar, as opposed to the case now where they pass through JKIA and onto Tz in most cases.
By losing the volume of traffic to Dar, KQ is also less lucrative to its codeshare partners. Bad times ahead for KQ.

I don't see that happening, they will still need to land first in nairobi or addis or Joburg and most likely the connection through jkia will be the cheaper and faster option.

The rumours that KQ is in serious financial crisis is getting louder hence this is more bad news for KQ
