Rumor was there and dismissed but you can't rule it out either.

It's not a rumour it's totally true there is even an impending go slow from the pilots as 11 have been told they will be retired 2 years early...as for the planes they are being leased out.

There are no routes in the forseable future to sustain the -300 which had been ordered. There may be space for the existing -200, but its crew is quite expensive to maintain. Take a 777 which does nbo-dubai-hongkong. You need a set of crew to take it to Dubai, a second set to take it to Hong Kong, another set to return it to Dubai and the set in Dubai to bring it back to nbo. You also need a fourth set as relief. That's four sets to run a single plane. At its basic level you need four sets, but with clever crew management one can get away with three. A 777 captain takes home1.5 metres before allowances. Because of type approval issues, 777 crew can't be deployed say to 787 or 737 or even embraers (haha)

Please remove the haha at the end. It seems intent to injure my spirits.. :) www.businessdailyafrica....lindi--Ukunda-flights-/-
KQ has nevernin its lifetime done Dubai-Hongkong
Used to do Dubai Guangzhou and Dubai Bangkok but both were dropped.Flight deck crew can operate different types as long as they have a type rating for the particular type. 90% of First officers flying the 787 were flying the Embraer and after accruing the required hours will go back as captains of the Embraer. 737 rise up and captain the777.

Dubai’s Emirates has also brought the battle to the doorstep of the troubled Kenya Airways when it announced plans to connect more people with Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, by switching from the current Airbus A330-200 aircraft used in one of the two daily flights to a larger Boeing 777-300 ER starting May 1.

I think this should be an opportune time for Sky Team to sit and collaborate better. KQ being the Africa point man, can create a imaginary Chinese Wall between the West and East - disruptor. 'kupitia kati kati'. That will hinge a lot on getting direct flights to the US. Also, now that Jet A1 is acting right. Nice chart this one http://www.indexmundi.co...=jet-fuel&months=12

Apparently the pilots are on a go-slow because some of their lazy colleagues were fired.

Whats wrong with returning what they are leasing? They have been acquiring planes every new month

Here is a strong case for Sky Team collaboration & Hub position.

CAPA
Quote:
China Southern will need to work more closely with fellow SkyTeam member Kenya Airways. Kenya Airways has a daily 787-8 service to Guangzhou but from Guangzhou only codeshares on China Southern's international services to Australia and Dubai, according to OAG schedules. The African traders in China are heavily concentrated in Guangzhou and near Shanghai/Hangzhou, meaning there is little need for extensive domestic codesharing.

China Southern will be more dependent on Kenya Airways for beyond-Nairobi access. Without cooperating with China Southern, Kenya Airways could face curbs on its growth. Kenya's schedule at the start of the northern summer 2015 season does away with the three weekly non-stop flights, replaced with a service via Hanoi (with no local traffic rights). Kenya's four weekly flights via Bangkok remain.

Kenya Airways serves 38 African cities non-stop from Nairobi, according to OAG data for Mar-2015. Its top 10 markets from Nairobi are mostly in East Africa but include Harare and Johannesburg, which could be important connecting markets for China Southern.

A strong partnership with Kenya Airways could make China Southern's Nairobi service more successful (less loss-making) than Air China's new African service, Beijing-Johannesburg.

China Southern has the advantage of a shorter route, reducing costs, and also allowing for a smaller aircraft (A330) than Air China's 777-300ER (with first class) to Johannesburg. China Southern will also be helped by departing from the southern tip of China, meaning it can pull traffic from across China to Guangzhou.

Air China, departing from Beijing in the north, will not be able to pool traffic as efficiently. Southerly Johannesburg may be a larger local market than Nairobi, but Nairobi is a more convenient connecting location.

@Vvs it has nothing to do with laziness I had pointed earlier that most of them had on average like 2 years to retirement and we're more accustomed to flying the 767s which are being done away with they had talks with the firm's HR last week but seems like they failed...In line with this KQ 116 and KQ 117 have been cancelled due to cockpit crew shortage it is now clear what that means....The go slow is definitely on.

On route matters,Tanzanian Civil Aviation has written to its Kenyan counterpart asking them to tell KQ to halve (Sp) their flights to Tz.
