This is a corporation with no social aspect in it... they just want to come, mint money and head their way... otherwise, why didn't they say they will engage the wakulima here to improve on their produce so that they can make a difference in the community where they are doing business? Irresponsible Corporation is all i can say! Unfortunately, they know us too well.... they can come around, do whatever they want without any conditions or expected responsibility from either the government or the wanjikus...

Hapo Wendz umewaonea... the primary goal of ANY corporation is to mint money.. and Obi is right, if what they are selling here is "consistent" with the standards majuu, then you'd better believe that the kuku is damn tasty.. The govt has and should have NO business trying to enforce CSR on any institution. the market should do that. I think its the farmers responsibility to look for the MD and find out what is required to meet their "consistency standard" and as a potato farmer, I intend to.. Otherwise what you're suggesting is a dependency culture since I'm sure that the 2,500 is more than enough to pay for the potato and transport from Egypt

May be this KFC are selling GMO potatoes which are not grown in Kenya.

Anyone got statistics on the health status of Americans especially in relation to lifestyle, food and such things in the recent past?

I am sure it will make good reading. But alas, trendy Kenyans only visualize the taste.....

I disagree @ Mozenrat. Our idiotic politicians are letting us down. KFC should come in and play to our rules or keep out. They add zero to our economy except a few low paying jobs and add to increase of lifestyle diseases which is a burden to our health system. The least they can do is source the food from our farmers and play a role in raising the standards of the produce.

When Wal-Mart wanted to enter the Indian market, among the conditions set were 2 conditions that 30% of goods in the stores be from Indian SME's and that 50% of their investment will be in backend infrastructure to ensure goods get from the Indian farmer/manufacturer to the Wal-Mart store. They caused a lot of hullabaloo, poured 2 billion dollars in India as lobbying costs and ended up being investigated in the US for this expenditure. But the conditions remained!

Oxymoron

Poor diet is the leading modifiable risk factor for ill health in the UK
more than 12% of the burden of ill health was attributable to dietary risk factors. And if we add the risk from being overweight too, it's more than 20%.
Condition linked to being overweight:
• Diabetes
• Heart disease
• High blood pressure
• Arthritis
• Indigestion
• Gallstones
• Some cancers (including breast and prostate)
• Snoring and sleep apnoea
• Stress, anxiety, and depression
• Infertility
Although we like to think of ourselves as rational, intelligent people who make good decisions, research shows much of our behaviour in relation to food or indeed physical activity, is not a conscious, deliberative act.
Rather, it is an automatic response, shaped by the circumstances in which we find ourselves and the environment and social cues that surround us.
