May be for the same reason, we have very low expectations from our leaders You are WRONG also. This was done during the nusu mkate gaament involving @RAO and @Kibaki as principals! anything good was done by kibaki govt. but anything bad was because of nusu mkate govt. that is how some people reason yeah. and; the converse is how the other people reason I didnt expect wazuans to be tribalists, so sad!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone is playing tricks somewhere or just repeating themselves This is part of the 280 MW. We have been enjoying the power since Q4 2014. They need to feed it into the grid for some time before doing the official opening. I think the error here has to be the media, they never get anything right. 5,000 MW by 2017 is a pipe dream, I don't think we will commission any other plant before 2017, so the Jubilee gava will take Kibaki/rao but this will only see them achieve less than 10% of their 2017 KPI's for the power sector. The change to geothermal was planned 15 years ago during Moi's time. During la nina in the year 1999-2000 the dams ran dry and an energy restructuring process was planned to stop reliance on hydro. The whole thing is the work of technocrats including negotiating the loans

Impunity wrote:Is it true now that geothermal power sources in Kenya has surpassed the Hydro Electric sources? who has these figures? They say our installed capacity is now 1,900 MW.
What is the %age contribution per each?
Geothermal = ? HEP = ? Thermal/Fossil = ? wind = ? Solar Others = ?
Meanwhile Argentina with the same population has installed capacity of 24,000 MW and a population of 40 million just like us. Whenever I see comparison of generation capacity btwn countries (to put us in our place), I always wonder if they have considered the differences in weather/climate. In some of these places you heat entire house 24x7, whereas this is not necessary in Kenya

Still you cant make up for 1,900 MW vs 24,000 MW! Portfolio: Sold You know you've made it when you get a parking space for your yatcht.

@imp, Argentina experiences winter, and peak demand for household/user determines the load and ultimately the required generation capacity. @ Maji the % was 15% last time I checked, but even then, whereas over 50% in Argentina require electricity to heat their houses mainly, over 50% in kenya just need electricity for lighting at night, something we could do with solar. I don't think we need 5000mw right now unless for export

The focus should be on the net effect to the Kenyans. Regardless of who is in power, Kenyans' needs remains constant. Affordable energy is one of them. If you remember when Vision 2030 was being launched, there was a deliberate effort to institutionalize the policies so that whichever govt comes into power they will continue investing in those sectors. In fact, the danger would have been Uhuruto coming into power and abandoning the Geothermal projects simply because they were a Kibaki project. The constitution only gives a limited time when one can be in power, thus continuity in govt projects should be a plus rather than an "Even worse" thing.
