What can you say about someone spending 70,000 pm on all expenses which are not investments i.e. rent, food, entertainment etc?

Honestly, is class defined wholly by where you live; or HOW you live wherever you live? And how much you are prepared incase of life's disasters to move on?
The laudable is more often than not rendered laughable by overclaim

Its all about perception and image, thats the reason people fake it and its about now not the future, if something happens society will just say amesota! Thats how our society looks at it, book and other societies definitions might be different

i feel that being middle class in kenya determined by your lifestyle more that income or where you live. Thats why you find a 45 year old guy with his own company and property all around nai with a 3 car garage living in Buru and a 25 year old earning 30k and living in a 20k sq in kile. the social economic classification of A, B, C1, C2 D & E is flawed as it focuses on income, residential area and only takes into account the bread winners income and not household income.

A better way would be the Living Standard Measure, LSM as we call it that divides the Kenyan population in 17 LSM with 1 being the poorest & LSM 17 being the richest. Middle class from an LSM perspective starts from LSM 7 to around LSM 13 being based on the standard of living.

Please elaborate more on the LSM bundles e.g LSM 1 is this lifestyle, LSM 2 is that life style etc.

that needs me to send you a presentation which explains it in detail. Send me your email address.

...this guy who has commented could be right. It maybe the case for some Wazuans in the green section

"Nzasi • 4 hours ago

In Kenya we live as "Middle class" for one week after end month then live poor for 3 weeks and the cycle repeats itself every month. At end month, we have breakfast at Java, lunch at KFC and supper at some grill place. After that its "Chai ya mkono moja" (Whistling) for breakfast, airburger for lunch and Ughali sukuma for supper."

Who belongs to the middle-class in Kenya today? And how much should one be making, per annum, while in the middle-class?

Middle class is not about numbers but how comfortable you are.

You could be earning 1 million yet struggling to meet you basic needs and some luxuries while a person earning 60K meets all their basic needs and luxuries as well as managing to save

Poor-If you are struggling to meet you needs
Middle class-You're comfortable in your life
Rich-You are wealthy, your assets are working for you
If Obiero did it, Who Am I?
