Very sad. What we are seeing is the rise and rise of political dictatorship and the death of democracy in Luo Nyanza. Baba has made sure that one can only be elected in luo nyanza via ODM, BUT also made sure that no nominations are ever held to give wananchi a chance to nominate their preferred candidates within ODM. Any attempt to do that is always violently disrupted. Then baba sitting in Nairobi handpicks his man, and takes him to machinani to be rubber-stamped by the voting machines so as to coat the political thuggery with some semblance of democracy. No party nominations, nothing! No chance whatsoever for the wananchi to air their views. Eti the shepherd knows what is best for his cordoos. Very sad! Welcome to the Odinga monarchy.

The way uhuru handpicked kuria for Gatundu and called the opponents to state house to convince them to stop vying. at least in Nyanza there was an election. how many people woke to vote for Kuria

Boss @Ohamngla, it's after 2pm. Don't expect any response...

A classical question is who said democrazy is the best form of government.

Do we have examples of other goverment structures that we can emulate that has been successful.

Discuss in detail giving examples that are relevant

I like the Swiss government set-up. I pray that one day we try that. This 'democracy' of ours doesn't work.

You are thoroughly mixed up. Let's look at the FACTS of the 2 cases so that we set the record straight:

1. Gatundu - a TNA zone where whoever wins the TNA nominations is more or less assured of winning the main election. TNA carried out party nominations, wananchi were allowed to choose among many candidates and Kuria emerged victorious after a bruising political battle. His defeated opponents defected to other parties and later quit the race because they knew they stood little chance since they had already been defeated in the nominations and could have faced similar thrashing.

2. Homa Bay - An ODM zone where whoever wins the party nominations is more or less assured of winning the main election. In this case baba wanted the seat for himself via automatic nomination but the people of HB rejected him. Then he made sure that party nominations were disrupted so that he could get a chance to pick his own candidate for HB. He ensured that there were no repeat elections and instead picked baby kajwang. Anyone else who was interested in the ODM nominations was shunted off and many sought refuge in other ODM friendly parties. However, this being an ODM zone and baba using all manner of intimidation, violence, threats, and even invoking fidel's name etc, they stood little chance and were even branded moles. Some like jakakimba gave up and pulled out of the race. Some strong ones like Okundi soldiered on but the odds were against them.

We can draw the following conclusions from the above:

1. whoever wins TNA nominations in Gatundu wins the parliamentary seat. Party nominations are more important than the main election. And Kuria was elected (during party elections) by the people of gatundu from among many other candidates. The byelection was to be formality.

2. whoever wins ODM nominations in HB wins the main elections. Party nominations are therefore more crucial than even the main election. No party nominations were held, despite this being the most crucial stage of picking the next leader. kajwang was selected. The voters thus never go a chance to choose their leader.

3. Kuria is an elected MP, elected by the people of Gatundu. Kajwang is an un-elected (i.e. selected) MP, selected by baba. In those 2 party strongholds, leaders are 'elected' at the party nomination stage, and the byelection is just a formality.

4. democracy prevailed in Gatundu, while there was no democracy in Homa Bay, infact dictatorship prevailed in HB.

We should all make sure that we safeguard the democratic gains that we have made as a country. The most fundamental tenet of democracy is giving the people a chance to choose their leader. And anyone infringing on this basic right should be rebuked. Some will choose to keep quiet as things go wrong while others, like me, will shout from the roof tops to ensure that we, as a country, do not deviate from the narrow democratic path.

Selected, elected, appointed, chosen, fished, rigged, Moses Kajwang is the senetor of Homa Bay county. Ni hayo tu, hizo zingine ni panganga.

Can you imagine when that time comes, ouru telling the people of kabete, a TNA zone, that there wont be any TNA party nominations, then he picks a candidate for them? And then he tells other contestants interested in TNA nominations that the 'party decision' is final and they (other candidates) can join other parties like ODM, Wiper etc to contest run against the hand picked guy?
