@holycow
Between eTrex & Garmin - which is a better model?

Final Question:
How do I calculate area in acreage through google maps? The shape is irregular.

Right click on the map and choose "measure distance", then click around the plot.

Download Google Earth it will serve you a lot better. Pick the ka-ruler icon and you can measure anything under the sun.

NB: "Right click around the plot". You should be able to see the area in suare metres and also in square feet in addition to distance round your plot. Q: Does it work(accuracy) for slopy terrain!?

Google Earth pro can do the areas in an option of dimensions, read polygons better plus they made it free.

For slopy distance, accuracy can be improved if you measure from known beacons or any plane representation. You could only get errors should you calculate the distanced based on the gps trackings. What im Simply trying to say is that if your calculations are based on a plane projection, you are okay. If they factor in the terrain,your tabulation will be erroneous.

Hi Wazuans;

1. I need a very small portable gadget which can help me in identification of beacons for my land. The gadget should be reliable with almost 0% error tolerance. Currently I use my phone, but it is usually not exact. Please give reference

2. How do I convert -1.134736,37.982738 into degrees South and degrees East? eg in this format 1º24'28.87"S,37º50'08.18"E. Somebody pls do the conversion for me.

Thanks

Did you see how much he's charging for his courses?

And people were complaining on another thread ( http://wazua.co.ke/forum...1519&p=2#post638630 ) that Centonomy's 34k for 11 weeks is too much!

Just put those coordinates in google maps and then on properties for the google map put it to display in degrees, minutes and seconds

The above coordinates are in UTM. I believe there is a number missing. The number usually denotes the zone. Like Nairobi, it is 37M. Westen Kenya, 36M, Mandera, 37N, Turkana, 36N
Could you be knowing the datum, is it ARC 1960 or WGS 1984? This is not important but could affect the accuracy.

For example, Nyayo Stadium roundabout in Nairobi has the following coordinates in UTM.
Zone :37 M
Easting: 258147.34 m E
Northings: 9855662.89 m S

PS: Not a surveyor but i have interacted with them.

Hi Okonkwo,

specify the format of the readings you have given in the above post, or post the numbers with their decimals as they appear on the gps and I will asisst to convert.

Here are all GPS formats for assistance

DD.DDDDDD

DD MM.MMM'

DD MM'SS.S"

UTM

MGRS

CH1903

OS GRID

If you are sure of your gps location format, just post.
