Initially we used hardwood sleepers because trees were available in abundance.
Then trees got exhausted and we embarked fully on steel sleepers.
Concrete sleepers are however cheaper than steel sleepers and also do not expand or expand like steel sleepers, this bending always distort the rails and cause derailment.
ION: Some of the heavy materials and spares are being transported cost effectively by the Lunatic Express; the two tracks lies next to one another on most of the sections...see the Lunatic train passing by!
